Craig Chandler is backing Smith and working on her campaign. Letting that guy anywhere near your campaign tells me you have crap decision making skills.

Her entire political career is a series of case studies in crap decision making so she’s staying true to form.

Alberta is going to have Brian Jean or Danielle Smith as Premier.

I don’t know how you can argue it didn’t work when the evidence it did is so easy to find.
https://www.gasbuddy.com/charts
Just look at the delta between BC and Alberta and how magically on April 1st the gap increased by roughly the amount of the gas tax. Where is your evidence it didn’t work?
Something else is going on in Alberta that is unrelated to the gas tax as if you look at Ontario their relief continued. So the last two weeks of Alberta vs ROC is interesting.
Kenny is an idiot and the whole gas tax relief policy stupid but unlike most of what Kenny does it lowered gas prices as intended.
|
The relief lasted about 6 weeks at which point Alberta started to gallop to catch up. Now Jason is calling in the gatekeepers to check in on the free market. Of course they could not keep prices the same right after the public tax cut, need some time and space in-between.

You appear to be unable to read a chart
At best you can argue that June 19th BC gas prices reduced faster than Alberta. But over this period the gap closed by greater than 13 cents Why?
Why did Tsu Tina lower gas prices prior to Kenny’s check on the free market?
Did you consider Ethanol pricing?
https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/why-is-ga...h-in-1.5976939
Did you look at gas prices in Kamloops?
https://www.gaspricesbc.ca/
And finally why is Diesel dropping and Toombes saying the pass through works

Do in summary your assertion is not based on evidence.

Our prices in Ontario did drop immediately after they cut out the gas tax I will say and dropped for a while since. They have crept up a bit the last few days.

I don’t know enough about Ontario shipping and Ontario pipelines to make any intelligent comment, Dont they still ship through the St Lawrence and Great Lakes?
I think the key factor that packs a Western interior problem rather than tax problem are the Kamloops gas pricing and the Diesel pricing.
The short answer through is CPs favourite economist states their is no evidence that the tax is not being passed through so that’s good enough for me.

If Danielle Smith becomes premier next year, I will likely move to Ontario or BC, or back to NZ. Her running this province makes me sick to my stomach and life is just too short to put up with that #### for four years, possibly more.
Long gone are the days of the Lougheed conservatives, which is sad. The right part of the political spectrum today is now a smoking (although Danielle Smith is okay with that), devolving ball of crap that keeps falling further and further right. Social conservatives need to find a way to take back their narrative.

I now know of two people (yes, just two, but they are who I considered your average albertan) who are voting for Smith because she is fighting for Alberta with her Sovereignty Act, something that Lougheed apparently couldn't do.
Their words, don't kill me. I need to GTFO of this place before it's ruined. Nothing says future prosperity and economic investment for a province like fighting your own country tooth and nail.

The longer Danielle keeps talking, the more liekly it is for everyone to realize how horrible she is, so keep at it. She really can't help herself.

Doug Ford is something else, but most people here (including myself) are fairly OK with him as premier. His politics have veered more towards the center as of late, his handling of the province is OK, and he ran a pretty well-oiled election campaign. He also doesn't say ludicrous/crazy things or is even remotely as right-wing as what goblins are brewing up in the UCP Alberta race.
He's got his problems and his administration/policies has its warts, but it's a breath of fresh air compared to back home.

We're seeing just how bad do you have to be to make Jason Kenney look good by comparison.

The good (?) news is that if she wins the leadership while she immediately becomes Premier*, she's not in for 4 more years, she's in for a year and then it all hinges on Smith vs Notley in the 2023 election.
*do we really think it's right that a small subset of partisans gets to vote in our next Premier? If the Premier resigns shouldn't we just go to a general election?

This is a hard one. Morally I can see how it feels wrong for the subset to choose the leader, but technically by our system we never voted for the leader in the first place. The Premier is the face, but we voted for a party to lead us, not an individual. So why it feels undemocratic to have the new leader only be voted on by a few, it is how our system is designed to work.
All of that being said, I think our "democratic" system is a far cry from actual democracy and feels much closer to a oligarchy with Democratic wallpaper.

If she becomes Premier - even for six months - she's going to shove down a bunch of dangerous, virtue signaling crap through the legislature before Albertans realize what hit them.
And if you think she'll do the right thing and call an early election, she already said she won't be doing that. That right there should strike fear in you that she knows Rachel Notley would be a serious challenge to her, so she'll use her window of opportunity accordingly.
This is a person who only five years ago said she was "unelectable". Now she could be Alberta's next premier, and it could get ugly for moderates.

Of course we are. Smith dominats the news cycle. It doesn't matter that all the stories are negative. Just getting her name in the news every day is probably enough to beat Brian Jean, who we almost never hear about or discuss.
Personally, I think it's irresponsible that media outlets cover Danielle Smith so much more heavily than any other candidate. It seems to be the best way to win an election in 2022, especially a conservative primary.

Yeah, it's kind of a tough one but ooof, I sure would like to think that Danielle Smith wouldn't stand a chance in a general election vs Rachel Notley but even that's probably optimistic..
