If lucic gets traded the Flames will lose a ton of their toughness with him, Gudbranson and Ritchie gone.
While it's nice having a tough team like that, it's not the end of the world

Not a fan of signing Kadri long term, but if in 5 years those contracts don't age well the Flames can enter the rebuild at that point. So for me being competitive next 3 to 5 years followed by 3 to 5 rebuild years is fine by me.

He's a UFA.
As far as I know he hasn't signed anywhere yet so maybe he comes back in a depth role

I think if Lucic is gone, they’ll bring back Ritchie

Crash and Bang Winger
|
FYI Capfriendly still shows us with 10 defensemen, 9 signed so realistic Cap Space is likely more 11.6 or so than the 9.3 shown with Gilbert and Valimaki in the minors.
We are NOT getting Mangiapane locked up for under 6 the way some think we are.
I did some comparison with wingers only not C,RW or such strictly wingers this past year.
Neiderrieter 29: like Palat 31 is NOT a comparable.
Burakovsky 27 :2 seasons in 9 with 20 and 23 goals. $5.5 Mange is better
Boeser 25,: 29,23 and 23 goals 3yrs 6.65 Mange is better
Fiala 25 : 23, 20 and 33/85pts last year 7yrs/ 7.875 he's maybe better than Mange and what Mange may aspire too.
Batherson 24,: 17, 17 6yrs 4.975
He dragged Team Canada to Victory and scored 35 while getting zip power play time. We have all seen his tenacity and not all players have that motor.
I still say it'll be 6Mill and maybe up to 7M to sign Mangiapane for 7-8 years.
Now our 11.6 is only max 5.6 and Kjillington and 3 more 750-950 AHL/Free agents need to be signed
We DO have Monahan and some LTIR time?
So realistically Kadri is a pipe dream and I do not see how we are close to his ask. Even trading a 4M D man isn't going to clear us to 8 mil because somethings coming back.
Trade a 4M d man for a R shot RW? Maybe thats another story but we either have room for Mange OR a Kadri and I prefer Mange.

It’s a rumour thread, so we can talk about it. The one guy on Twitter that keeps beating the Kadri to CGY drum has certainly committed to his BS, if it ends up being BS. Repeatedly professing that it’s pen to paper tonight. I’ll give him this, he ain’t backing down if it is just a troll job.

I'd like just once to see the Flames without a goon. The whole team can step it up, show up in scrums without goons or refs establishing their completely phucked biases.
Officiating is bad enough as it is ....I mean really bad 👎
There's no one on the Flames now that aren't afraid to throw a check, go into the corners etc etc.....one of the 2 guys to just leave couldn't or wouldn't do either of those things sadly and I don't ever want to watch something like that again .
I'd rather have a roster of guys willing to do it all then have guys on the roster who only pick their spots only when they are ready to engage in physicality. ...plus Darryl doesn't want pussies on this team.

Ritchie also missed a few games with a concussion last season. Hopefully he’s okay but that didn’t look good when he got knocked out.

Taking a while to get to 5000

He played well in the playoffs. Fully recovered. Would not shock me to see him back at a smaller salary if he's still unsigned around camp.

Zadorov can be pretty tough too. Certainly not in the Lucic/Gudbranson category, but tough enough.

Here's a question - who is Calgary's face-puncher if they move Lucic out? I know, I know, the league has changed and teams don't need goons anymore. Still, I enjoy the game a little more knowing there is a nuclear deterrent sitting on the Flames bench. At least Kassian is gone from Shelbyville.

They don't need a nuclear deterrent for Kassian.

If the Flames sign Kadri and assuming they keep Huberdeau and Weegar, re-sign Mangiapane, I don’t think anyone can dispute we are better on paper than last year.

Maybe two separate deals?
Anaheim - Lucic
Calgary - 5th
Anaheim could use some toughness to protect their kids, and hit the cap floor. Less than 1 million in salary for Lucic.
Calgary: Nick Ritchie
Arizona : 5th from Lucic trade, Valimaki (I don't know, whatever)
I suck at making deals, but that doesn't seem too awful for me. I am hesitant to give up up on Valimaki right now, but him being waiver eligible and having a down season maybe. Ritchie sucked in TO, but he was pretty good in Arizona. Night and day different. 2.5 cap hit for this upcoming season and then UFA.
Zadorov was definitely part of last off-season's shift of identity in being difficult to play against, but he was not a deterrent of any kind. He just isn't much of a fighter. Losing Lucic will remove a lot of toughness. Suddenly Nurse ends up being the toughest guy in any Battle of Alberta, and Nurse being the tough guy means he goes around jumping guys (I hate that guy). It isn't insignificant, but losing Lucic will hurt the Flames somewhat. However, the gains the Flames can make from his cap space is more significant.

Throw away anything but 2022/2023, and Kadri gives us the best chance to compete for a Stanley Cup and that’s what this is about for the organization right now.
Let’s do it.

I still appreciate the value of a guy who can throw down in the lineup, so I'm hoping Looch stays. He also provides a ton of swagger for the group.

Flames could also just play the “we’re going to get injured at some point…so why not start Monahan/Tanev on LTIR and we’ll go from there” angle

I agree. I want Lucic to stay for his last year as the 4th line LW.
