No offense but one thing i've learnt is we have a lot of "insiders" on CP with some pretty bad intel lol.

Can we go back to having mods verify rumours instead of having posts like this?

I'll post it again since we're on a new page.

Have to think this is a good sign coming from the agent.

Good for Walsh. He knows that Calgary has unfairly taken a reputation hit lately and it’s in the best interests of agents to have 32 healthy markets.

Well, the best thing will be the Flames once again have an elite winger. Top 5 in the league. Maybe top 3.

And I expect that if he extends there will still be complaints: too much money/term/, too little term, too old, not a PO performer, should have been traded for picks, still not a guaranteed cup, etc.

Been watching everything I can find on Weegs and Hubes and I come away more and more impressed with each video.

What I like is the transparency of these guys . Some guys don't say allot and so you never know 100% of what a guy is willing to try and do.
With these 2 it's very apparent. They want to win and win badly.
Being excited and saying all the right things is great and all but I honestly see it in their eyes when they speak.

Our D is WOW. We need another forward but the overall makeup of this team NOW shows me a shift which will be beneficial moving forward.

Both of these guys are leaders who pride themselves on not just talking trash 24/7 but look to be difference makers .

Walking onto the Flames we've got winners . Coleman, Lucic , Tanev, Lewis , Toffoli and Darryl have all been successful whether it be leading or winning It all it brings winning experience that matters most when it matters most.

The #1 thing that makes me smile. Darryl will COMPLETE these guys .
Getting them up to the next level I'm willing to bet from game 1 to 82 the ascension to becoming what they're meant to be will mean allot to them and make them champions and a part of unfinished business.

Go Flames Go 2022/23

Anytime you sign a player in his late 20's to an 8 year contract it will eventually stink. That's the price of contending.

Maybe I'm misreading things but can't we only offer Huberdeau a 7 year deal?

For some reason I thought 8 year deals were reserved for RFAs.

They can sign to 8 years.

Player needs to either have been on their team in the most recent trade deadline (Huberdeau was not) or be signed through the subsequent trade deadline (Huberdeau is).

Gaudreau was a UFA but the Flames could have signed him to an 8 year contract because he was on their team for the most recent trade deadline, no other team could.

I'm taking nothing negative from that tweet, it can only be at worst case a neutral. But we also need to consider what the real motivation on that tweet is, and I doubt it's got anything to do with the unfair hit Calgary has taken.

It's like 100% to increase bargaining power IF his client ever hits the market, to let people know he'd take a contract from Calgary (to your point, more teams the better) AND likely a PR move for his client after seeing the hit Johnny and to a lesser extent Chucky took. One poster in here already reacted to the post this way, but it's the "my player is open to staying, so if it doesn't get done don't blame us, it was the team / GMs fault".

7 years would be better for the Flames but I have to imagine Huberdeau will want an 8 year commitment from the Flames. Given they have lost their two best forwards in the span of a week I think the Flames should have no issues offering him the 8th year. Certainly much better than offering Kadri 6+ years.

I highly doubt his agent posts that if they aren't having serious talks

I agree with this, or at the very least open to starting them.

Lucic/Monahan covers the contract and likely then some
give the guy what he wants, team needs a win

also you can bet your ass players want to come play with the NHL assists for a LW record holder

5 years likely even better, but it's 8 years or we trade him.

For those panicking about immediate extensions:

Imagine your employer just spur of the moment traded you to another employer, in a different city, and a different country.

Would you immediately sign on the dotted line to stay there for the next 5-8 years? Or would you take a little bit of time, get to know the new workplace, your new coworkers, see the new city - among other things?

Let’s try to remember these arent just names and numbers. While highly paid yes, these are real humans with real lives outside of hockey to think about.
