Would be a bold move with high risk and I wouldn't mind f'ing over the Rangers cap structure.

The Rangers only have 18 players under contract, and $4.8M to play with. Kakko is the only unsigned RFA. An interesting wrinkle is that the have Kravtsov coming back who can fit in that slot, if Kakko leaves.
$4.2M is the top of the compensation where it only costs a second round pick, which Calgary has.
Kakko is 21, I would offer a bridge deal of 4 years, taking him to 25 at $4.2M. It would be very hard for NYR to match, and if they did they would be scrambling. Kakko won't see anywhere near that bridge with New York.
Kakko is a high energy, high upside player. Chances of him reaching that potential is still very good, and he has not meshed well with the Rangers coaching staff.
Very bold.

Didn't Julien Gauthier request a trade?
I'd love the Flames to pick him up.
6'4, 230lbs, right shot, skates really well, $800k cap hit then RFA

Thinking out loud here but if Huberdeau doesn’t want to sign maybe trade him to Tampa for Pointe and a pick as they are needing some cap relief… screw Florida

Point’s cap is $9.5M so where would the savings be? Never mind that, he’s their 1C and a playoff beast. Why would Tampa trade him *and* give us a pick??

Depends what mangi wants on his contract...Kakko would be great, offer him 4x4 just to screw with the rangers. I can see the rangers putting Gautier on waivers, maybe a deal can be made for Kakko and Gautier for valimaki and a later pick

I'd like to see the Flames sign Stastny on a one year see what he can do contract if he would do it. He always played so well against us maybe he could do the same for us.

I doubt Steel gets signed until there is some closure with the Hockey Canada investigation.

I would easily pay that price to land Kaako. He looked like a deer in the headlights in his first season, but he's getting better every game. He had 18 pts in 43 games this past year, creeping up on .5 ppg. Can't see the Rangers not finding a way to match an offer sheet though.
Julien Gauthier is built like a bodybuilder and can really move. He doesn't use his body nearly enough right now, but I could see Sutter turning him into a force on a checking line.

Tre should call them up and say,"Just want to give you a heads up-we are planning on offer-sheeting Kakko. We wanted to give you an opportunity to trade either him or Kravtsov to us, in order to avoid any unpleasantness."
Can't see the Rangers letting him go without matching.

I can see that as well. Isn't he one of the few players that have not issued a statement of denial?

He issued a statement through his agency. I don't recall the verbiage, but it definitely could have left things open. That being said, when he played in Regina, and was around the community, he was very classy and humble. Anyways, guess we will see. I really want steel on the team

A lot of the things being said about Kadri are the things once said about Giordano.
Personally, I look at Kadri's style of play, and I see him as someone who could have a Hossa or Pavelski like twilight. Not saying I expect a 90 pt player ever again, but a guy whose value far exceeds point totals. I don't believe it was a coincidence that the Blackhawks declined the year Hossa LTIRetired.

I wonder what if we can snag Jonathan Drouin from the Habs? Some injury troubles in his career but he's just getting into prime age, if he could stay healthy and he's also a buy low candidate right now. Plus adding some more french connection flavor to the team and he also has familiarity with Weegar in juniors.
Drouin can skate, he's shifty, and I feel like he might fit in with the structure.
