They have been a top 5 regular season team twice and a top 8 playoff team twice. Win X amount of rounds or you're fired is a terrible way to run a hockey team...there are just so many factors.
Like I said he would be hired elsewhere immediately, and we would get a new GM with the same geography.
|
Well the team he took over was one of top 8 teams in the playoffs the very next year, so it is pretty questionable how much of a bottom feeder they were. After that season he built a team that went on a 6 year sabbatical from being a top 8 team in the playoffs.

It wasn't really, though. It was a team that caught lightning in a bottle, and benefitted enormously from a very favorable opening round draw. "Playoff success" is such an unpredictable and unreliable data point for analyzing the trajectory of a team because so much of it depends on the fortunate happenstance of many things just going right at the same time. And sometimes it takes a long time for a team, or a player to figure things out.

If he didn't bring in Hiller they miss the playoffs though

Hillier was our Ken Dryden that year. He had a worse winning percentage than Ramo and only played in 60% of the games, but without that lesser ability to win than his backup we would have never made the playoffs.

According to his media availability none of this is true. Its fine either way. If he doesn't want to stay he can still be flipped for assets i'm glad we got anything. STL fans were making it sound like they were doing us a favor offering us anything. Im surprised we got as good a deal as we did from FLA.

.918 save percentage behind a rebuilding team
He had the tougher matchups and got them headed in the right direction early on.

Brad lost
Fox
Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Stone
Kadri
Brown
To geography...that we know of
Careful what you wish, guy would get another job instantly and dominate the league in a more desirable location.

The Blues offer was straight up trash. One wonders how serious they were about acquiring him. Maybe they thought they had the Flames backed up against the wall but I think Treliving would have kept Tkachuk rather than trade him for what the Blues reportedly offered.

Tarasenko, Scandella, and a high draft pick reportedly.

Brad needs to go….. on his summer vacation!
I think he’s a good GM for this team and market even though I may have previously thought otherwise. When this thread was started a lot of things were up in the air and the main one was coaching. Since Sutter returned, things have settled down quite a bit.

No vacation yet! Sign Weegar tomorrow, then he can go!

He’s had an incredible summer
In such a short time
So many twists
One more signing to come
And
Still a rumour that there is a significant move to come
Great job

A third of the way to redemption. Treliving gets credit for getting Huberdeau inked, but still work to do. Needs to get Weegar signed long term and then find another forward to replace Tkachuk. Doesn't need to be a high priced guy, as Huberdeau has made some really middling talent in Florida look really good, just needs to be a guy that can finish. Beaulliver on the Islanders or Bratt on the Devils makes the most sense IMO. Move Lucic for cap space then trade a defenseman for one of these forwards (or a similar player) and his work will be done and he will be a wizard. Still work to do, but looking a lot more promising than it did even a week ago.

Treliving is NOT in need of "redemption".
