Another poster DMed me for some suggestions on quiet roads for riding down South. I made a quick map with some roads around De Winton that I ride all the time. Thought I'd share here if you're looking for some South options. It's mostly rolling hills and flat over there but there are some decently challenging climbs. I threw in some Priddis stuff too if you end up over there.
Green is great/good roads. Orange is the really hilly sections. Red is the crap roads/gravel.

Any recommendations for parking, ideally as quick/close off Stoney as possible?

99% of the time I park at Heritage Pointe Shopping Centre and then cross over Macleod on Dunbow Road to get to the De Winton area. On the map it's the orange bike on the right.
At the top of 96 St W just off Stoney is some parking areas along the road people use all the time. You'll have some decent hills to contend with getting back to your car. There is an area down the hill, across from Red Deer Meats were I parks sometimes too.
Silverado has a couple shopping centres you could park in as well.

A Canadian won today's stage of the Tour de France. Hugo Houle came in 1st and Michael Woods (also Canadian) came in 3rd.
Steve Bauer was the last and only Canadian to win a Tour stage in 1988 (Stage 1) and now he’s the Directeur Sportif for Israel PT (Houle and Woods' team) and was in the support car today. Pretty awesome.

I'm sure all the cyclists here on CP are fine upstanding citizens but after watching someone decide that traffic lights are merely suggestions and nearly get smoked by a car this morning, I figured it was worth reminding everyone that 30 seconds saved by crossing signalized intersections whenever you feel it's convenient is a bad look for the rest of us cyclists too.

Not me, I openly admitted to breaking the law (in the roads thread) by riding through a red light on the regular up in the NE on my morning commutes.

Has anybody biked from Banff to Two Jack Lake Campground?
I'm thinking of doing Canmore to Banff then to Two Jack to visit a friend this weekend. Might be doing it alone. I know the Legacy Trail will be good but any surprises on the other stretch I should be aware of?
So yesterday on my ride home I broke another spoke on my commuter. My timing was perfect as I got to the bike shop today at about 12.30 and there was nobody but me at the service area.
I got them to replace the spoke, make 4 more and I bought a chain whip and a centre lock/shimano cassette removal tool, so hopefully I can save myself a trip or two to the shop.
I am likely going to have the boys build me up a set of dt swiss 32 holes rims to end this issue once and for all. They suggested I’d be looking at $1200’ish

Easy peasy. When you get near Banff you take the underpass to Cascade Ponds, then exit to Minnewanka road. Take the first right and grind up. I prefer the other direction, but it's longer. Oh, and if you have bear spray, bring it. Got the poop scared out of me once by a bear in the woods!

At that price you may as well buy a whole new commuter.
Why not just get a new wheel online or used? If it’s only a commuter you don’t need light or aero and instead something beefier.

Not all lights are triggered by cyclists. I have some lights where I literally have to wait for a vehicle and then hope they stop on or near the sensor. I’ve waiting nearly 5mins sometimes just to be legal, but it’s really ridiculous. So if it’s a red and super clear in both directions it’s worth considering the dash across.

If it's just a commuter, then why not rebuild the wheel that's giving you issues? I had a cheap bike with a poorly built wheel that kept breaking spokes, so I just rebuilt it myself. It has an internal gear hub so I couldn't easily buy a replacement, but the rim was still in good shape so I was able to rebuild it for about $30 in parts (or I could've paid about $125 to have it done). That was about 5 years ago and it hasn't broken a spoke since.
My commuter bike is my gravel bike - a trek checkpoint alr5. I am fortunate right now that our office has a top notch bike lock up room, so I don’t need a beater commuter bike
However, with respect to this spend my cookies were cooled a bit yesterday as the carbon cranks on my mtn bike broke yesterday, so in the short term that will take care of some free cash that was lying about. The bike shop did think there is a chance that race face will cover the cranks under warranty as I have had my bike for two years and two months. But in the meantime, I need to fix this.

Sure, I get that. Where I saw this person nearly get smoked by a car is the opposite. It was busy (morning rush hour), plenty of cars and transit buses to activate the signal, and it has a short signal cycle in off-peak hours. It's about the worst place to be cheating things. It also has terrible visibility to the crossing road so even in off-peak hours I'd be nervous about trying it.

Conflict avoidance and smarter decision making need to be balanced with actual need, perception, and general awareness. Many motorists only see a cyclist busting the red light and don’t see or care if they’d already been waiting 5mins.
I'm fine with people going through red lights or bending the rules, as long as people realize that the onus is always on the individual doing it. It's like with jaywalking...I'm for it, but it's always on you to not impede traffic...and if there is any issue, you're the a-hole, no excuses.
