Nah, it's because Huberdeau just gave out the generic boiler-plate answer while Weegar added context.

Weegar does good media spots. No big quips to build a headline around but he'll be an intermission piece a lot I think.

When asked about re-signing in Calgary, Huberdeau would look up to the right, which interrogators often translate into someone not knowing how to answer so they are trying to be creative on the spot.

It doesn’t mean he won’t be open to it, just that he doesn’t really have a concrete answer yet. Which is understandable considering all this is new and has likely been a head spinning few days for him.

Overall I feel pretty good having seen that. Huby stating he wants to play for a team that wants him and musing that he could get Lindholm to 50 was music to my ears. He likes the Stampede so promise him the parade marshall next year if he signs.

It was a Zoom call.

Being on Zoom in front of your webcam is so awkward. I didn't even realize for myself that I was giving off less positive body language on Zoom calls until I started watching recordings of myself.

Then imagine the nervousness they are feeling meeting Calgary media for the first time (and Eric Francis being the first reporter to ask you questions lol).

So, my advice is not to read too much into their body language lol

I'm sure it wasn't and this isn't to pile on. If nobody points it out to you then, how can you be better?

I used that language years ago until one of my queer friends explained how hurtful it was. My language changed immediately.

It's language I used to take for granted but now I know better. (and so do you )

This was also about 20 years ago for me so not some recent revelation.

For the record, I'm not gay and I don't think that would have offended me even if I was but it's very childish (to put it nicely) to not be able to recognise another guy as being handsome.

I think that's right, Huberdeau's value should be much easier to figure out.

I do think Huberdeau may be a tougher sign though. Weeger hasn't made all that much in his career, relatively speaking, and likely is more risk adverse.

But at the end of the day, who really knows what they are thinking.

For the record, I don't think you needed to specify whether you were gay or not. It's not relevant to the issue.

What an exciting offseason! I can't wait to see what else BT is going to pull off, still has to be more moves coming. This has been like the ultimate hockey fan soap opera.

Honestly, it is not really fair to expect a player to immediately want to re-sign. It sucks for the Flames because we want immediate clarity, but the players have a lot to consider and do not have strong bonds here.

Instead of trying to sell them on why Calgary is a great city and the Flames a great organization, they need to appeal to why is makes business sense for them to capitalize now. They can always be traded after this season if Calgary isn’t a good personal fit.

The Flames have shown in the past that they will move players who want to be moved, so committing to a contract doesn’t mean they have to be stuck if they really want to try their luck somewhere else.
