I saw that 7 people died in Columbus shootings over last weekend. And then they had 4 additional shootings across the city over a 4 hour span on Thursday alone.
Columbus sounds like a hell of a place.

Did I miss a mass shooting?! or just like separate shootings that left 7 dead, total? I guess that's pretty shocking on it's own.

Things in the US is most if not all of those shootings are normally in the hood. Very bad area of town that guys like Johnny would never be close to. Unless he is into illegal activities.

0% chance we are getting a better trade than what we got from anyone.
I mean yes - we may have gotten younger magic beans that we hope turning something half as a good as Huberdeau and Weegar, but we weren't beating that trade.

From The Athletic this morning. Patrik Laine's reaction upon hearing the news.
Quote:
“My friend woke up and said, ‘You guys signed (Johnny) Gaudreau,’ and I was like … ‘No. No. No chance. No chance. You’re just playing with me.’
“And then I checked my phone and saw all these messages, and checked Twitter and all that, and I saw that we got Johnny. So I was pretty pumped. It was hard to scroll my phone because my hands were shaking. It’s so exciting to get that kind of player on your team, and, obviously, he can help us in so many ways.”

All the sentiment stuff aside, if he wanted to be here, he would be here.
Fact is, he isn't here and neither is Tkachuk. But at the very least, Tkachuk gave the Flames clear indication and they were able to sign and trade him. He's not some golden boy for doing that, but he did more for the Flames on his way out than Johnny.
Case closed. Shove your sentiment and your nights where you cried yourself to sleep.

That would be an incredibly stupid act and probably be a bad look for other players. He left and did nothing outside of the rules. There's nothing that states he has to do anything for anyone other than himself after so many years under team control.
I've said it before. The Flames could have easily imposed their own deadline that would have given them flexibility and forced Johnny to come to a decision a week or two earlier. It's entirely poor asset management that lead to such a scramble.

Realistically, What would the Flames get for Gaudreau's right after the playoffs?
Assuming that the Flames would never trade him before the playoffs even if he told them there was no chance he would sign.

Completely baseless and almost certainly unfair comparison: Johnny is The Deep and Meredith is Cassandra.

Why don't any perennial all stars ever fall out of the sky and into our laps?
At least it wasn't the Rangers I guess.
Still horse#### to lose a homegrown star who had a chance to maybe be the all time greatest Flame, just because of geography.

Just that little hint of a smile on Jarmo's face as he hears Gud's news. Too weird. Well, he won't be poor, but whether he'll be loved remains to be seen.

It's insane that his agent called and pitched... the blue jackets. They really must have found the market incredibly soft. Also yeah it definitely seems like his wife is driving the bus

So, Johnny can forever be known as "Eric Gudbranson's buddy". Nash didn't know who Johnny Gaudreau is? Just an odd phrasing!
