It’s saying ‘Guess who’
But shortly after Matheson who’s a new Dman for the Habs looked like he was being played off as the one who typed ‘Guess who’ when they said our ‘new admin’ (Matheson) didn’t mean to cause a frenzy on twitter. In reading through the ‘Guess who’ tweet lots of habs fans were hoping it was a PK Subban announcement.

I think BT will try to bring in Chychrun from the Coyotes. May be Kylington plus F prospect + ?.
Hanifin - Anderson
Chychrun-Tanev
Zadorov-New guy

Pastrnak just turned 26yrs old and is a star player, he may be loyal to the Bruins but he's not going to retire or play in Europe any time soon.

Apparently an issue with Cassidy, who they already fired.

Actually, Pasta (and Marchand) were among the players who didn't want Cassidy fired, and liked the coach. It was the bottom half of the roster and the young guys who didn't like Bruce. The issue was allegedly with Don Sweeney over poor communication by the team regarding their intentions to extend Krejci and Torey Krug, contracts which obviously weren't signed. It's also important to remember that all of that is nonsense concocted by a Boston media hack. Their media guys are exceptionally terrible.
There has been no indication from any real source that Pastrnak wants out or that the team doesn't intend to extend him.

I know this is 'captain obvious', but the Flames have to be active right now. They have a surplus in RH D and at LW. They are very shallow at C and RW. They also have nearly 12-million invested in two bottom 6 players (Monahan/Lucic). Finally, several of their players are waiver eligible and easy waiver pick-ups (Valamaki, Mackey, etc).
They can and will shuffle LW to RW to help mitigate that gap, but they are dreadful at C unless Monahan is 100%.
Kadri is the obvious choice and would solve a lot of problems. The Flames tried to trade for him so they like the player. But even if they manage it they still need some help up front and with the cap.
Who are the players the Flames may be looking to move?
Reasonable:
- Hanifin: Good player on a great contract, but he is signed for only two more seasons. If the Flames want to deal their defensive depth to go after a big fish then Hanafin could very well be involved.
- Valamaki: He couldn't crack the depth chart last season and its improved. He is waiver eligible and still has value. Good chance he is moved.
- Lucic: The Flames would probably like to keep him, but 5.3 million for a fourth liner is a luxury the Flames don't have. His real world salary is only 1-million this season so I think the Flames can find a taker. Matching that to his 8 team list could be a challenge though.
- Monahan: Monahan is the type of player the pre-Monahan Flames would have targeted. Former 30 goal / 60+ point C that could return to form. Final year of his contract minimizing risk, and the price is right. Its a better bet then a Phaneuf / Stajan swap, Jokinen 2.0, or a Cervenka hail Mary. Decent chance the Flames find a buyer.
Dark Horse:
- Andersson: On one hand he is signed 4 more seasons to a value contract, he led the team in ice time last season, he saw a big leap in his offensive and defensive game, and he is only 25 years old. On the other hand he has more value then Hanifin, but Hanifn is probably the more complete player. The Flames also have a lot of RH shots in the system.
- Dube: Only a dark horse because his versatility and low cap hit are probably worth more to the Flames then what they will get in return. Otherwise his inability to find a consistent role would suggest he is a likely trade candidate.
- Mangiapane: The Flames can't afford to lose Mangiapane, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk in the same off season. Except Treliving has to be a bit worried the huge jump in goals last year might inflate his contract value. I think they make it work though.
- Huberdeau: It is easy to say 'trade him at the deadline' if they can't sign an extension. But if the Flames are in the same position as last year there is no way they are trading a top player away from the team. If Huberdeau doesn't want to talk extension with the Flames Treliving may choose to trade him now and investigate other options.
- Vladar: Wolf has earned a chance to compete for a spot. Vladar was a functional back-up, but he doesn't scream 'future starter'. There is no rush on this one so it probably waits for camp. It will take a massive effort (and most likely an early season injury) for Wolf to make the team as the back-up, but its possible.

^^^ There isn't anyone on the current roster that should be untouchable. Everyone should be available at the right price, and that right price should be quality futures. The problem with making deals at the deadline is half of the teams are already out of the mix. You limit your market by half. Waiting until the deadline also means just strictly futures deals, so a hockey trade is very unlikely. Waiting until this deadline is going to filled with a lot of risk. Teams may not be inclined to give up their first round picks, even if they are solidly in the playoff picture, because this draft is suppose to feature a lot of depth. I suspect you see more 2024 picks moved than 2023 picks because of this. The last thing I want to see is Treliving being left with a decision to sit on Huberdeau and Weegar because we are on the bubble to make the playoffs. Get the deals done before the season start. Extensions or trades, just get them done.

I think the Flames should go all in this year. That’s why in my previous post I’m so hell bent on us getting another top 6 player to make us hard to play against. Our defense looks great, really great. And now part of me just wants to keep Hanifin so that we have a solid 6D. Mackey can be the 7th D. Valimaki should get traded for a center that also needs a change of scenery. I’ve always mentioned Vilardi. I’m sure there are others out there too.
Extend Huberdeau and Weegar, then retool on the fly in the 2023 offseason if need be. Or, if we are sucking with the current lineup we have a lot of attractive assets around the league.

Athletic reporting that the Islanders are making a push for Kadri.

Article says Barzal will likely be put on Kadri's wing.

There are 2 times a year that a team over pays for player acquisition… Free agency and the trade deadline. Either time it’s because of competition.

This assumes they get them both extended. I guess we wait and see. I'm of the opinion though that it's dangerous to start the season with these guys if they haven't. Tree made a great trade, but any injuries to these players are so devastating if they can't be moved at the deadline.
