Lo and behold, Sutter asked for three players: Hagman, Mayers, and Matt Stajan. Burke didn’t really want to trade Stajan but was willing to do it to get Phaneuf. Sutter added Sjostrom to make the salaries work, and Burke was okay with that because he liked Sjostrom. Finally Darryl asked for a defenceman, specifically Ian White.

Burke was probably over the moon at this point, but he asked that Sutter include prospect Keith Aulie as well. Sutter said no ****ing way. The next day, Sutter relented and Aulie was included.

So basically Burke traded away three guys that the Leafs didn’t want plus Stajan for Phaneuf.
this post should be Mod Edited and deleted!!!! ugh

lmao why is Micheal Stone our 4th line LW?

In the simulation I'm guessing the team is coached by a splicing of Gilbert, Gulutzan, & Ward.

Problem with the bolded is when they stop being elite (if they ever were). Seguin, Skinner, Vlasic, Karlsson (injuries), Subban, Phaneuf, etc.

That said, screw it, just do it. And this is coming from someone ambivalent about 13 and 19 and well aware of Huby's shortcomings.

A huge value of extending either/both of these players is that you can take advantage of this year at exceptional value AAVs without risk. Saving 3-4M each on the first year when your team is as close as they've ever been (IMO still not very close) is huge.

If things go well, push ALL-IN at TDL. If not, you could still trade them for a great return this TDL even with an extension in place. Teams like WAS and PIT don't care about bad AAVs 5-9 years from now.

As far as I can tell, the only time Huberdeau has ever worn another number other than 11 was at the 2010 Hlinka, when he wore 10.

I think 71 could be an option too…

That or Backlund should go back to his sweet rookie number of 60 and give 11 to Huberdeau.

Can’t do 71.

We’re going to acquire Hall next

10 or 21 are my guess.

Although, the Flames website has Rooney with 21, but I'm sure he'd give it up if Huberdeau wanted it.

77 is a possibility like when guys like Fleury would swap a 1 for a 7 on Team Canada if their normal number was taken.

Every championship team has a good #19. Huberdeau would look good in it.

I maintain that he would look badass in #1.

So bad it's good. End up trading Huberdeau and getting a good shot at Bedard.

I wonder if Tkachuk will keep 19 or try to get 7?

It looks like Gudas has #7 currently, but he has worn many numbers in his career, so he isn't likely tied to it. Thornton wore #19 in Florida last year, so it should be free now.

So focus on the negative right? What about the huge amount he has done for sexual abuse victims? I think that trumps his crazy political views. His number should be retired, the organization might not do it but the players that come there have.

I don’t know how many times, watching games in the garage, I said to my pals “Imagine if Gaudreau was 190 pounds, could finish his checks with some physicality and dig corners...”
