I don’t really care if I come off as black sheep here, it wouldn’t be the first time. I’m still going to put my opinion out there just like everyone else, even if it is unpopular.
Your opinion is fair. My opinion of make the most of opportunities you have when you can is because of the uncertainty of success around a rebuild.

If you knew it was going to be like the leafs with 3 years of top 10 picks and then a contender within a few years.. sure. But being a Buffalo or an Edmonton and spending a decade as a terrible is not appealing.

Did the entire team piss him off though? There’s been so much turnover and change that occurred since 2021. He scored 40+ goals, 100 + points and he won a round for the first time in his career. If all of that didn’t change his mind, then something really bad must have went down.

Given the circumstances this seems like about the best outcome we could expect - although it would have been nice if Hubs had at least one more year on his deal.

It would have been interesting to see what other deals brad was being offered.

Or he just wanted to be somewhere warm or close to home?

Allows them to fit him in easier right now, because most teams have already structured their respective teams cap for the year.
Not a chance Huberdeau nets the Flames more than Tkachuk did. Even though Huberdeau is likely the superior player, Matthew was an RFA ready to sign an 8 year deal whereas Huberdeau to another team looks mode like a 1 year rental. Team control is everything to a GM.

The problem with the trade is it is a win now move. If we landed Huberdeau with a stacked roster I'd be really pumped we were going for it, even if it was for only one year. If Huberdeau signs a deal though that gives the team a few years to try and build around him which should hopefully be exciting as well. But if he doesn't sign this all could turn into a major disaster where we lose Gaudreau and Tkachuk for peanuts and all our trade pieces have less value. In that scenario yikes.

Yeah, Tkachuk strikes me as the kind of guy that will get lost at a lot of beach parties.

You guys always assume the worst case scenario "going for it" and the best case scenario in rebuilding

Far more rebuilds fail than turn into anything great

The Flames won't lose the two main cogs in this trade for nothing, its not happening

also the Flames roster is too good and the division is too bad to rebuild now anyway...its as easy a pass to round three as ever.

Oilers? pfft...I will take them over any other top 2 divisional team thanks

At the very least can the collective hockey media complex stop referring to Tkachuk as a 'Unicorn". It's gotten tiring.

Or Huberdeau and Weegar are open to the same type of process. Tkachuk could have said St Louis or bust.

Treliving says the league office told him this is the first sign and trade in NHL history.
