He will have arguably a better d-corps around him with the Flames than he had in Florida. Sutter could just roll:

Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev
Zadorov-Weegar

With each pairing seeing ~20 minutes a night. Or pair Tanev-Weegar to give Hanifin-Andersson more sheltered minutes.

I think the only reason Weegar didn't see more PP time in Florida is he was used so heavily everywhere else.

Can't see that happening though.
Fans finally have hope for the coming season and a reason to buy tickets again.
Immediately trading Huberdeau doesn't seem like something thr average fan would be into; even if it's the smart move.

Quite possible to completely reverse the entire Gaudreau mistake in one fell swoop.
not going to happen, but imagine we trade Huberdeau to STL or NJ for one of the proposed Tkachuk packages, plus having Weegar, Schwindt and a 1st on top. Lol.

mind you, I'd rather re-sign and keep Huberdeau. But if they struggle to come to an agreement and other teams come up with great offers, it makes sense to listen.

I don't think that's the plan but if somebody knocks your socks off...who knows

Not generally a big Treliving fan and not convinced this move makes us a solid contender bur you have to give credit when it's due. This was a great trade by Treliving regardless of hsow it ultimately turns out.

Also kudos to Tkachuk.Gets more money than Johnny. Goes to a better team. And helps the Flames replace him in the process. 100x better vibes on the loss of the player compared to Johnny.

You can, but the return better be amazing to justify flipping a 115 point player.

The only issue with this trade (from my perspective) is that both main pieces are older players. For that reason alone I’d be more than happy to see what Huberdeau nets in a trade. I would not be surprised if we could get a similar return to the one we were originally hoping for Tkachuk.

If the Flames begin the season with Huberdeau unsigned, there is no way he gets moved unless the team is abysmal before the deadline, thus there would be a likelihood of receiving only one year of Huberdeau in this deal. This would be a level of proactivity which the Flames have not displayed in a long time, and is the kind of thing teams trending upwards have a tendency to pursue.

Treliving can be GM for life if he can pull that off

If he trades Huberdeau, we could be right back on the Bedard train

This is great news. If he shows reluctance to sign, there will be a lineup of bidders for him.
You could literally do the same thing you just did with Matthew. Get a list of teams and do a sign and trade.

Hello St. Louis/NJ.

But bringing back some nice young pieces this time.

Then still ink Weegar to an extension.
