I would prefer they extend him. I have to think that Treliving is going to be working overtime trying to get a deal done prior to the start of the regular season.

Serious question, why would he (they) extend now?
He may not want to play here.
The fallback isn't bad but not sure there is much incentive to sign now besides de-risking injury.

One would think with how Johnny and Matt worked out. Maybe Tre talked has at least positive vibes about Huberdeau lol

Also, guys with single digit numbers will often double them, so maybe he'll do the opposite and become the first skater to wear #1 since the 1950s.

He might not be open to talk contracts at all, given he is a pending UFA.
Flames would have to move the player before the trade deadline.

So many things to say.
You thought Chucky was a terrible skater on hard Canadian ice… wait until you see him in the slush in Floridas rink.
Huberdeau set a record for assists by a LW, passing on crap ice, wait until you see him with Calgary ice!
Look what Huberdeau turner Bennett into… that nobody could do here in Calgary…
Also. I turned 42 yesterday. This was a win. 4 pieces for 2.
That’s all for now.

Who is they? The Flames or Huberdeau? If it is the Flames it would be to lockdown the asset and extend their window through 2025 probably. If it is Huberdeau it could be because the offer is too good to pass up. 86 million over 8 years may be a number that they don’t want to say no to.

If anything, I anticipate if either Huberdeau or Weegar indicate they will not re-sign (and I think Treliving has learned this is the game he needs to play now), we will flip either for another 1st/picks, etc.

PLD has said that. Salty Oiler fans and Montreal fans have said that about Huberdeau, I have never seen anything reported in the media he has ever said that.

We would probably need to add Pelletier as Mtl media is high on him.

The problem with flipping him immediately is that the trade market for forwards over 25 seems to be utter trash right now... Bjorkstrand for a 3rd and 4th? Cmon.
If they do trade him though I hope it's to Ottawa or something. It would be hilarious to just continuously fill the Atlantic full of good players just to piss off Leafs fans. "Hey here's yet another guy who will be pumping goals past your sieve of a netminder, enjoy".

Honestly that would be badass and I already took the liberty to mock it up:
