I wouldn't worry too much about Walsh.
At the end of the day it's Huberdeau's decision.
He trains in Calgary apparently so he knows the city. He's a Canadian and Calgary likely offers him the best chance to play in Canada and win with everything considered (cap space, team, coach bla bla).

Lindholm and PLD as the 1-2 punch down the middle would be insane.

And if it slides to 2026 and then the 2026 1st for Florida is a lottery pick do the Flames get that? Man I hope Florida gets a lotto pick in 2025 lol

Tre should trade for PLD now. Get a bunch of rentals and really go for it.

the 1st round pick in a couple years may be on a cycle where they are starting to decline. It could be quite high depending on how things go in the future. It's a team that is already without their 1st round picks for the next couple of years.
It's a lot for them to give up for Tkachuk, and I think he's going to be lights out playing with Barkov.
I think it was a bit of a panic move for a franchise that has struggled to have playoff success despite great regular seasons.

Yeah definitely jazzed about Weeger being part of it!
Certainly understand the angst about having NO 1sts for the foreseeable future as well.
All I can suggest is that Tkachuk will certainly change the dynamic when you play Tampa! Wonder who Tampa's "Doughty" will be!

A first line with Huberdeau, Lindholm and Mangiapanne should see all three with good stats and value going into the trade deadline. Sutter will likely also see Weeger have a great season. Personally, I'm not worried if they don't sign as long as the team is willing to make deadline deals for picks.

PLUS!!!
We got Weegar is is a solid top 4 d-man with offensive skill.
PLUS!!!!!
We get another 1st round pick
PLUS!!!!!!
I get to still cheer on Tkachuck in Florida!!!!!
Oh my god. This seems too good to be true. The only hiccup is that Huberdeau needs a new contract soon, but that's a problem for another day.
An absolute homerun of a trade. Well done Tre.

MINUS!!!!!
Huby needs a new contract and he was also a no show in this years playoffs if you watched the Panthers!

Not to be the debbie downer but Huberdeau is 29. Really hoping the Flames are looking at a 5 year deal and no more. $9.5/season seems about right. I also think certain aging wood should be dealt while at their peak. I do think that includes Toffoli and possibly Backlund, as their values will never be higher, and along with them, Hanifin. The team has to get a bit younger and faster.

The weirdest is that all of their upcoming 1st round picks (23, 24, 25) are lotto protected. The details of the conditions might be interesting.
Do the Flames get a 2026 unprotected 1st if Florida get a lottery pick in 23 or 24 & their puck slides?

He isn't, Gaudreau turns 29 in August.

Yup, in that scenario Flames would get Florida’s lottery pick in 26.

I doubt we’re trading Huberdeau and Weegar if they don’t sign.
With this team we’re probably in a similar spot to last season: top-5 in the West with phenomenal fancy-stats. In that situation, trading away our best player (Huberdeau) and a top-4 D seems EXTREMELY unlikely.
It’s entirely possible what just happened is Tkachuk was traded for one more shot at a Cup and we’re left with Schmidt and that 2025 1st at the end.
However, we DO have a shot at winning the Cup next year. A Bratt/Holtz or Kyrou/Neighbors trade and we don’t have that shot, we’d be a big piece away.

Huberdeau 7 x 10
Weegar 5 x 6
about the right ball park? Possible Huberdeau would need that 8th year, I guess. Weegar, no idea.
