Yes you need to own a wireless router to use it...but that's only for online multiplayer which is separate for each game and either well done or crappy. I can tell you it works great in finding opponents to race in Mario Kart.

But you can connect to your friends DS without a router, the DS can communicate wirelessly with other DS's for a range of like 30 feet.

you don't need a wireless router. they make a wireless usb thing that will connect your DS through your pc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintend..._USB_Connector

It's a good handheld for and very interactive with the use of the stylus. Can't say I've used the wifi much, but the kids love it with Mario Kart. I actually do have the USB adapter AND a wireless router

Where do you buy the DS/Wii Wifi USB Adapter? I checked futureshops webpage and did not find it there.

I acutally bought is as a Boxing Day Special with the DS itself. Buy both for $169 instead of $149 for the DS and $35 for the Adapter. Got from Zellers. You may want to try there.

The thing is, if you're going to spend $35 on a DS wireless adapter, you might as well get yourself a router instead so you can have wireless internet, that's why I never suggested it.

Same thing, really. If you don't already have a Wireless Access Point, Nintendo will sell you one of theirs. Personally, I would just as soon buy a Wireless Router and hook the DS up through than than to buy a single use device.

I never use it myself really, other than mario kart once or twice. It's hard finding players for your specific game unless it is a hugely popular one like mario kart. There's no lobby system or server list or anyway to contact or interact with other people through wireless gaming either.

Although some games have built in chat. The DS's own picto-chat can only be run without a game so that's pretty useless as well.
