It's still mindnumbingly stupid. Like Huberdeau isn't just a better player than Tkachuk, he is WAY better player than Tkachuk.

For Tkachuk to get back to a PPG player he has to play with Huberdeau to do it.

I walked away from this board.

But this trade is just too good to not return.

Huberdeau. Weegar. A very decent prospect. A first round draft pick.

Absolutely insane return for Mathew Tkachuk.

Tkachuk asked for a trade and by all reports gave very limited teams he would accept a trade too.

Insane. Yet look what Treliving got back.

Ufas? Rumour on social media is that Huberdeau summers here.

Even if not, trade them at deadline to contenders for more assets. If we are out of it a contender will be all over these pieces.

This is an absolute massive win.

Insane trade.

We traded Mathew Tkachuk - yes Mathew Tkachuk - and somehow likely came out significantly ahead.

That’s a great deal for them
Yeah, for both teams if Huberdeau and Weegar sign extensions. Huberdeau is more of a Gaudreau replacement. Weegar more than makes up for Gud.

Still need another top line winger unless Mangiapane graduates. As it is:

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Coleman-Backlund-Toffoli
Dube-Monahan/Ruzicka-Lucic
Pelletier-Rooney/Ruzicka-Lewis

Weegar-Tanev
Hanifin-Andersson
Zadorov-Kylington. (Not sure about these pairings but it’ll be fun)

So you’re saying this whole thing about letting Johnny walk and trading Chucky was so that ownership could generate more jersey sales by bringing in new stars?

Edwards you diabolical genius.

I agree it is a spectacular trade, but the worst case which is at least possible with the Flames is they make the Flames very good this year, but are not signed and the Flames keep both past the deadline and lose them for nothing.

If both don't sign, we could potentially flip them for three 1st round picks combined....Would mean Tkachuk was traded for four 1st round picks

Just not much to be excited here. We just pushed the window out a bit but the team will be much worse than last year, and all we get to show for it is a 1st round pick 3 years from now.

Just hate this trade.
I'm honestly starting to feel a bit sorry for you ...

They turned one UFA in a year into two UFAs in a year, a prospect and a first with the two UFA in a year both likely to command good returns if they can't sign them.

+++ asset management with time to figure it out

I expect Tkachuk to play with Barkov which isn’t nothin’.

Huberdeau is the Gaudreau replacement, really. He’s going to fit great with Lindholm, who’s better than Bennett by a long way.

EDIT: thinking of Huberdeau as the Gaudreau replacement makes the ages of the pieces fit a lot more too.

You have to think that Treliving was confident in his ability to extend these guys before making the trade.

Even if not, both are excellent trade deadline bait. Either the season goes well with them both, or the team continues to build forward with trades for futures.

It’s net positive for the Flames.
