The contract doesn’t change things a bit. It changes things a lot. Florida saw the writing on the wall, came to the conclusion that they weren’t going to come to a deal with Huberdeau after next season, and got themselves a Tkachuk.
That’s a great deal for them
Yeah, for both teams if Huberdeau and Weegar sign extensions. Huberdeau is more of a Gaudreau replacement. Weegar more than makes up for Gud.
Still need another top line winger unless Mangiapane graduates. As it is:
There's alot of jersey regret going on......Thats a hung chunk of the last generation sales....huge....
So you’re saying this whole thing about letting Johnny walk and trading Chucky was so that ownership could generate more jersey sales by bringing in new stars?
Edwards you diabolical genius.

Worse case is they both get traded at the deadline for a boatload.
Which is miles ahead of where we were earlier today.
We needed a dman to man the PP, we now have him.
I agree it is a spectacular trade, but the worst case which is at least possible with the Flames is they make the Flames very good this year, but are not signed and the Flames keep both past the deadline and lose them for nothing.
Team clearly isn't looking to rebuild. They will be right on the bubble with Weegar and Huberdeau so they won't trade them. I have a hard time believing they won't test free agency.
Just not much to be excited here. We just pushed the window out a bit but the team will be much worse than last year, and all we get to show for it is a 1st round pick 3 years from now.
Just hate this trade.
I'm honestly starting to feel a bit sorry for you ...
They turned one UFA in a year into two UFAs in a year, a prospect and a first with the two UFA in a year both likely to command good returns if they can't sign them.
+++ asset management with time to figure it out

The fact Huberdeau did not have Calgary on his NTC list and the fact he spends time here gives me good feels about his extension. He is a terrific player and can drag players to good seasons just like Gaudreau.
You have to think that Treliving was confident in his ability to extend these guys before making the trade.
Even if not, both are excellent trade deadline bait. Either the season goes well with them both, or the team continues to build forward with trades for futures.
