Rip the band-aid off and take a crappy return that gives you the most flexibility.

I think it's possible that at the next 2 TDLs they can sell each of Voracek and Nyquist for at least a 3rd+4th (presuming retention).

If it would have cost a 3rd+4th to dump Nyquist now. The overall difference would amount to: -2 picks vs. +6 picks...an 8 pick difference.

Even if using your logic... Does Voracek become untradable now? Why is he worth 2 picks in scenario 1 and 0 in scenario 2

Seattle is loading up their forwards quite nicely:

Burakovsky-Beniers-Bjorkstrand
McCann-Wright-Eberle
Schwartz-Gourde-Tanev
Donakoi-Wennberg-Geekie/Hayden

They needed to move Nyquist or Voracek but would have had to retain and pay, or really pay big to move one of them.

Good example of a team with cap to spend cashing in post free agency

To do what. That bunch of middle sixes won’t accomplish much other than maybe getting them out of the prime draft real estate.

Hahah I realize that they are all middle 6 guys but if Beniers and Wright become top 6 C they can help stir the drink offensively.

You aren’t wrong about the fact they should be trying to suck this upcoming season especially to continue to add talent through the draft.

It’s been the complaint about the Flames for years. But no, even as is, I don’t think it’s better. Those guys are cast offs mostly for good reason. Burakovsky lost his spot to Nichishkin. Beniers dropped in the draft. Eberle is soft. I do like Gourde and Donskoi.

He’s worth 2 picks in 1.75 years at a TDL.

This is the worst time to trade middling UFA age players for any kind of return…there are still some decent alternatives for ‘free’ as UFAs

Goes to show how valuable cap space is. First Pacioretty for nothing and now Bjorkstrand for mid round picks. Just an awful market if you're trying to free cap space, good players get you nothing in return. Can't imagine what dumping a bad contract would cost right now.

Yeah this is ridiculous the more I look at it.

This is a first line player in his prime trade for a 3rd and 4th round pick?

What in the actual ####?

Flames may as well utilize their cap space to grab some assets. Get JVR from Philly or something.

I bet Francis has been exploring the market for some of his guys like Eberle so he knew just have soft the market must be right now.

It's a good thing we don't have to unload Monahan or Lucic, as it seems much more expensive than we thought it might be.

Maybe he doesn't jive. I think we know two players who recently didn't feel the need to jive with a team.

Pretty sure we paid more for 25 games of Jankork. Ridiculous.

You’re being contrarian here because I’ve never heard you make that complaint about the Flames to be honest.

Not that I think much of Seattle but to trade 20 games of Jarnkrok and gain picks and Bjorkstrand is some pretty good roster building IMO.

Too bad they royally effed up the expansion draft. It will take them 3-4 years to make up for that.

Beer costs more at the saddledome than at a liquor store. More at 11.

No, I honestly don’t get the strategy. It’s a bunch of aging middle six guys who will age out before any real contribution from draft picks. The Flames had middle six guys. In the middle six.

Beniers was the number 2 overall pick. I don't know if I would call the dropping. Wright might be more of a faller, but not by much.
