Tkachuk and 5th traded to Jersey for Mercer, bratt, holtz, nemec, 1st and Hughes. (Hirchier being their captain couldn't quite be had)
Jersey fails miserably since they gave away all their best prospects and depth so the 1st gets the Flames Bedard.
Flames lose in the cup finals to Tampa after the refs called back a game winning goal only to hand Tampa a powerplay in game 7 OT.
Flames learn from their loss and become perennial cup winners for the next 10 years creating the ultimate dynasty.

Flames struggle to find consistency, losing 15 of the first 20 games, 5 regulation losses (all games lost by 1 goal), 5 in the shootout, 5 in 3 on 3 overtime.
Flames get a shot in the arm midseason with the return of a fully healthy Sean Monahan, a 10 game winning streak, riding a hot Markstrom, propels them back into the playoff mix.
The Flames end the season with back to back shootout losses, which leaves them in a tie with Vancouver for the 8th seed.
Vancouver advances to the playoffs because they have 1 more regulation win, which gives them the tiebreaker and an opening round matchup with Colorado.
Lindholm, Backlund, Kylington, Andersson and Markstrom win IIHF world championship gold, beating the USA with Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
The Tkachuk trade nets them a 2023 1st round pick, which lands at 15th and keep their own pick at 16th.
Tkachuk is traded for an underwhelming return: a first from a team who makes the final 4, a prospect who can't stick in the league, a young player who shows promise but just fizzles after coming to Calgary, and an established player who asks to be traded next off-season. Flames trade this year's first to try and make the playoffs but don't and their pick that's top 3 protected gets the #4 pick.
This would be typical or expected. Certainly not outrageous
Flames trade Tkachuk and Valimaki for Bratt, Holtz and New Jerseys 2023 1st
Jersey struggles with injuries and poor goaltending all year and their pick ends up winning the 1st overall
Flames still make the playoffs without Gaudreau and Tkachuk, Holtz wins the ROY and Bratt is rhe Flames leading scorer and then get Bedard in next year's draft
