Move on already.

We're making our own novel style of retool that people will refer back to when their team loses valuable players.

Zucker would likely cost a 1st+ just to move that contract, nevermind giving them Mangiapane for pretty much nothing

That person clearly said it was a suggestion. You can argue with the example they gave if you like.

All very interesting rumours
With the current state of the cap, the available UFAs next year, the apparent strength of the next draft, the fact that the last group didn’t achieve much playoff success and more coming off our cap next year.
The current series of events could truly turn into a real blessing in disguise.

As Flame fans, we can only hope and pray that this somehow turns in our favor. Lord knows this team has been riddled with misfortune for many, many years.

The question is if CP and fans have the patience to not judge our predicament for about a year.

A lot of wildcards between now and then. So many things can happen, from drafting stars to huge signings to big hockey trades.

There will be so much opportunity for the team in that time.

If this was inevitable, the timing couldn't have been better for a teardown/retool. If navigated right they could right the ship again in short order.

Not to mention a few earlier moves like getting Zibanejad AND a 2nd for Brassard. And picking that Shesterkin in the 4th rd of 2014.

This is dumb.

I'd bet 99% MacKinnon will get extended before training camp. It probably would already have happened if they weren't the last team playing, and celebrating, and then had a bunch of UFA stuff to sort out.

The rangers retool also involved winning the lottery twice to move into top 3 (kakko and lafreniere) but yeah that’s completely feasible for the flames...

Though the odd thing is that neither have been huge parts of their success so far, though AF is looking like he's about to take a step.

You must be young. I despise every team in the league. Worst part is Calgary draws me back in.

What if you draft one? Some are dwelling to much on adding a panarin via UFA. It’s more the approach they are taking not so much they think they can get panarin

Oh hey remember Friedman's "joke" ad that played on 960 all year about Gaudreau and Tkachuk being dealt that everyone hated?

Funny thing about that..

But I guess the contention from many was that the "Rangers style retool" that was suggested as something the Flames should follow was just as much, if not more, about an elite winger and an elite defensemen that just won the Norris, plus a top 4 defensemen wanting to play there.

If you remove players wanting to play in New York then the "New York Rangers retool model" is actually just the standard "sell everything over a certain age off and start drafting until something hopefully comes together" rebuild.

The Rangers didn't find a secret, they play in New York City and their retool would be a rebuild and they'd be like most teams that sell off and enter a proper rebuild....tanking and waiting for years for high draft picks to pay off into an up and coming playoff team.

Drafting a PPG player is something most easily accomplished with a high draft pick.

Colorado just won it all With five players they took in the Top-5 - MacKinnon, Landeskog, Makar and Byram. Throw in EJ and JJ, that’s six top-5 picks.

They beat a team who has picked top-3 three times, and turned the 3rd pick in Drouin into Sergachev.

When the highest pick in team history is 4th overall and plays for the Panthers, you’re not a contender. It’s unlikely you’re even a playoff team.

Coleman-Lindholm-Mangiapane
?-Backlund-Toffoli
Lucic-Monahan-Dube
Lewis-Ruzicka-Pelletier

That’s a bottom-5 forward group. It might actually be the worst forward group in the whole league in terms of talent, and that’s not hyperbole.

Subtract 82 goals between Gaudreau and Tkachuk, this team goes from 6th in scoring to at 291 to 31st at 209.

It’s over.

because that is the game one lineup...and nobody will be playing those minutes. Come on now
