I'm game for young players coming back here and bolstering that with a massive offseason in 2023.

Hell, we can throw McDavid money at Nate Mack next offseason and see if we can price him out of Colorado.

True and even if we have no chance at Mackinnon if we trade Tkachuk for Bratt, Holtz and 1st. We now have 2 firsts

If Mangiapane doesn't sign long term can we trade him for a bad contract and a first? Example to the Penguins for Zucker and 1st? Can we get more

3 firsts in 2023 draft and our first near the top. Can we utilize the 2 extra firsts or 1 for a Dougie Hamilton type trade? Every year some RFA is available because he doesn't want to sign or team wants to bridge a good young players. Lindholm was another guy we added in this scenario.

I'm ok to use the 2 late firsts to add a RFA available and keep a guy like Holtz and the Flames first that could be another high end prospect.

Hard to say who we might move but I'm ok with trading anyone that won't ink 5+ year deals and keep anyone that will. I'm also ok if they don't spend the cap this year so we can load up next year

Zucker is not remotely an attractive piece anymore.

1 year contract. Mangiapane for a first and what will the Pens give us if we take Zucker's nad contract back? He might not waive to come here but if a player is looking to get another contract he might take the team that might give him ice time otherwise he might be out of the league.

I bet the Pens would trade more than a first t take Zucker for Mangiapane

This is also assuming Mangiapane won't resign long term. If he does then just sign him

Same for Kylingtom. If he is willing to commit 5+ years then sign him. If not trade him unless the return isn't good then maybe keep him on a 3-4 year deal.

Trying to emulate the Rangers is just stupid. They had a good season because a top 3 defenceman in the entire league wanted to play for them and only them and a goaltender picked in the 4th round had the best season since Hasek.

The Rangers had the the worst advanced stats of any team that made the playoffs. They'll have some natural growth next season, but I wouldn't be surprised if they slide back.

The Rangers can cycle like this because they play in New York.

All it really is, is a regurgitation of what has been widely rumoured and speculated on, then framed as if it is insider information. Sure, this stuff could be true, but I am not buying this person has actual inside information.

Any insider who says; "I know more but can't say..." is a usually a fake looking for attention. If a legitimate source tells you something but says you can't talk about it, and you then talk about even vaguely like that, I doubt that source is going to trust you a lot in the future.

Building your team by UFA’s is a fast track to mediocrity.

Yeah but you might be able to get a high pick just for eating the Zucker contract ..
and I would argue Mangiapane is worth a lot more than one first on his own.

Kassian really cost a 2nd to move. I’d guess zucker cost about the same

Mangiapane is worth more but a bit less if he won’t sign long term. If he does then keep him

Does the "Rangers retool" that ownership and management are hoping to follow also include signing a free Norris defenceman that is only available because he doesn't want to sign here?

The guys they moved were pretty much all 28 or older. They kept Kreider, Buchnevich, and Zibanejad.

In a Rangers style ‘retool’ I could see the Flames keeping:

Lindholm
Mangiapane
Andersson
Hanifin

The big question is Markstrom. Like Lundqvist in New York, I would expect the Flames to let him make his own call about staying or leaving.

If the trade for Tkachuk yields primarily futures, I wouldn't be opposed to taking on Zucker plus Pitts 1st in exchange for calgarys fourth and a "c" prospect. Zucker was a bad fit there from day one.

I would rather see what the Blue Jackets would part with to move Nyquist. He's a much better player and they're reportedly looking to clear space.

A Rangers style rebuild also requires signing a PPG winger from the Blue Jackets, not losing a PPG winger to the… Blue Jackets…

#### me running, this team…

edit: also would rather build up the middle.
