And because of the way gas prices rose almost overnight, even with small reductions in the current price we have significant inflation in gas prices baked in until next year:
June 2021: $1.34
July 2021: $1.38
August 2021: $1.39
September 2021: $1.39
October 2021: $1.46
November 2021: $1.46
December 2021: $1.40
January 2022: $1.47
February 2022: $1.57
March 2022: $1.75
April 2022: $1.74
May 2022: $1.95
June 2022: $2.07
So even if gas prices dropped to to the $1.80 range for the rest of this year, that's still a 25-35% increase year over year until February 2023. Of course the flip side of that is, unless we see $175 oil and $3 gas next May, then energy inflation (and all the inflation that stems from that) will be reduced next year.

Had an idea!

With the looming recession, and housing crash that is coming, demand on gasoline should drop, which if the pricing is built on supply & demand should mean the price will come down.
If gas prices are contributing to almost 1.6% of the increased inflation numbers, any kind of drop should help.

There was some sort of "expert" on CBC today that was saying we are at peak inflation for food prices so maybe it won't get too much worse. Although much like gasoline prices we probably won't see prices going down anytime soon.

I don't know. Remember there were experts that never predicted that Inflation would reach the heights that inflation is at now. I'm having "expert" trust issues.

One thing with inflation is you should always lie about inflation. Inflation is a self reinforcing belief once it starts to spiral.
I think this time you don’t need to listen to experts to see housing, copper, wheat and oil are all down from peak.

And along with this, a lot of those experts made those comments before Russia/Ukraine. I’m not giving a free pass to governments or central banks and letting them off the hook entirely, but there’s no question that pushed inflation higher for a number of things.

Your second sentence is kind of offset by the first.
The initial commodity price spike from supply chain issues and prodigious money printing has leveled off. But the labour market is still very tight and people are asking for large raises due to inflation. We are entering a wage price spiral.

Big companies (especially in tech) are freezing hiring and layoffs are soon to come which will lower the labour market issues. Seems very likely we are entering into a recession.

i suppose the only upside to this inflation is that hopefully it dissuades the liberal party braintrust from recommending the PM drop a writ for yet another useless election as i have seen a few political pundits suggesting that this little summer tour seems to be potentially greasing the skids for this
surely the PM is not that power hungry to drop a writ again

Lots of cross country flying with a lot of photo ops with kids. Coming to Calgary during Stampede to attend a Liberal Fundraiser. Flying to Halifax to attend a Liberal Fundraiser.
Yeah, it feels like they're really pushing on the rally the troops and get lots of money phase of pre-election.

I have a feeling that parliament will not be working for very long when they come back from the summer break. It seems like a lot of ongoing issues are getting worse including inflation, the backlash over whether or not Russia sanctions are being committed to, travel/border/passports and others which the Liberals will likely not want to address too much. Their are some commissions like the RCMP NS shooting one which could be troubling for them. I wouldn't rule out a probation of government at a minimum and maybe even an election.

I have a feeling that the Liberal's are going to put poison pill legislation in front of the house.

Or perhaps spending & hiring like drunken sailors lead to a lot of bloated budgets & waste, plus lost of productivity and efficiency, and they want to trim it out.
