Dude, Im not even a Timberlake fan, I dont even own a CD, nor have I downloaded any of his stuff. If I hear it at a club or something, I dont mind it. But I aint gonna start trashing somebody for something that they like. It just doesn't make sense. You know you could list me a bunch of artists that you like and there's probably gonna be a few that I don't like, but I aint gonna start bashing you. It doesn't make any sense, like none. But whatever, think what you want, but on this subject, YOU ARE WRONG!!

Well done...
I didn't read clarkey's post, but it started off pretty bad. I ask you clarkey, why are you barn burning in a thread for an artist you don't like? Isn't that pretty much like those annoying canuck fans that troll the flames board?
And on to the topic at hand... I really don't mind Timberlake. After years of listening to the same rock music, I've opened my mind to all other genres and accepted what Firefly said earlier:

And sometimes, fun is had on the dancefloor. Timberlake gets the ladies dancing, and that, that gets me dancing.
Conclusion: keep it up, Justin.

Really, I used to only listen to 60s 70s and 90s rock. Now, I can listen to any radio station in calgary except cjay.
Vibe? for sure. I'll listen to JT
Jack? hell yeah, I'll let the 80s have some airtime in my truck
107? I still love classic rock
102? yup, I even like classical
94.7? hook up the jazz, baby
105.1? my friends can't believe it, but I'll even listen to country.
Guess what I'm saying is that you don't need to let your favorite musical genre be your external front. Hating JTs music is one thing, but I went and read your post and it sounds to me like you hate the guy's success. You can't hate the guy's music because you don't like how it was manufactured. You either like the music or you don't. Hate the artist and the art, but you can't hate the one because of the other.

good post. I'm kind of in the same boat as you. my ipod used to be 100% rock, and now it's about half. I can't stand listening to CJ92 anymore. Every other song is by some band named "Default Theory of a Creed-ickleback" and they all sound the same to me. that coupled with #####in Jerry Forbes, and I feel nautious on the drive in to work.
if you haven't listened to CJSW (campus radio, 90.9 FM), you should check them out. it's a different genre every couple hours, plus jazz shows every weekday morning. good stuff.
some people just hate pop music, and that's fine. but these "music elitists" that call other people morons because of their taste in music are ignorant, which is sadly ironic.

I used to worship this man when I was going through my boyband days in my teens. But now, I hate his whole persona. I see him as an extremely arrogant bugger. Also, I am not a huge fan of his voice, I think he is marginally talented. Having said that, the music is so darn catchy. It really is good club material.

Meh ... it's not as offensive to the ears as some stuff. For pop I suppose it's not bad but I'd still never listen to it if it somehow wound up on my iPod.

I liked the CD (at least the first half). The thing about the guy is that I find him incredibly fake (don't shoot me, but I do). The thing about the song writing credits I don't buy at all. If you came up with a song and he offered to take it off your hands for $25K, I'm sure everyone would send it over, and he'd put his name on it. Little known fact, "Rock Your Body" was a song by the Neptunes written for Michael Jackson, but he turned it down, Timberlake got it and wadda ya know - he gets songwriting credits on that one too. I'm not sure about talent either with the producers he gets could make anyone sound great. Music is good, but I wouldn't be so fast to call him a talented artist since he creates nothing from scratch himself.

Just like the people who use trendy nicknames like "Default Theory of a Creed-ickleback" and claim they all sound alike are ignorant and "music elitists." The way to make these people more proud of themselves is when they through in some crappy indy group that they like to show just how much better they are.
It seems a little hypocritical to complain about people's reaction to your choice in music while pissing on someone else's. Not sure why saying Timberlake sucks is elitist, but Nickleback etc sucks is okay.

I"m not sure how writing credits go but sting got a writing credit for money for nothing and all he wrote was "I want my MTV".
Nevertheless, I'm going by what Pharrell Williams (from the neptunes) said about justified and how Justin was extremely involved in the writing and producing aspect of the album, it wasn't as though he just showed up.

you completely missed the point of my post. I wasn't complaining at all about people who don't like pop. In fact I said:

I dislike some of that formula rock stuff, which is also fine (actually I like some of Creed's older stuff). The "music elitists" that I was refering to are people who feel justified in mocking other people because of their music tastes (calling them morons, idiots, etc.). Feel free to comment on why a certain band, artist or genre is terrible, but when you call someone else an idiot for having different tastes than you, it's ignorant.

This thread already reminds me of past nickelback ones. We get the point.... some like <insert artist here> and some hate <insert artist here>. We know the music is "fabricated" and we all suck because we listen to it, and we should listen to more underground to be cool.

Justin Timberlake is miles better than Nickelback. This is pop music but not all pop music is bad, some pop music is good. JT's new album is very, very good.
