Oh I am fully prepared to be disappointed. I have no faith in management at all. A rookie GM like Grier will probably trade us Karlsson for Tkachuk.

Someone else mentioned Point and I said it would be great from a Flames perspective but not a Tampa one.

Need more of that.
Seems doable

I didn't bring up Point but people keep saying Tkachuk is right below Matthews and McDavid

Point is a downgrade apparently

Set your expectations high, Brad was able to lockdown Milan Lucic for us for 4 years. Anything is possible.

Tkachuk for Point would be a solid trade for Calgary.

As mentioned, contract wise Tkachuk has done the Flames almost worse then JG in his time here. If JG had the same contract he would've been gone 2y ago.

Tkachuk is an excellent player, if he's in the right situation. He had flashes the last few years but also distractions. His flipping tables in the room after the puck flip at his face really divided the room. His antics seemed to stop this season as he could focus most on his chemistry with JG, but sure enough, unnecessary 2nd fight with Heskinen in game 3 really limited him in the playoffs.

Never got the same warm and fuzzies he was a long term Flame. When JG left his main reason for staying was gone.

My guess is these leaks came out for a reason, Flames are pretty air tight and maybe the agent is pushing the Flames towards some teams.

Again though, Darryl will use every bit of these situations in motivation for the team in his time remaining here.

He has an NMC but I wonder if Benn wouldn’t mind coming here for 2 years. Trade Tkachuk for Benn+prospects. Dallas loads up, clears cap, and fully transitions off of Benn to the young guys. They’d probably still want to be rid of seguin but his contract is toxic.

Any 2 or maybe even all three of Stankoven/Johnston/Bourque and a first would be a solid package to go for it in a couple years.

Actually Point for Tkachuk would be a pretty fair "hockey trade".

I think this will start happening to other teams as well and players will be acting more like NBA stars who move around a lot and plot to play with other stars in big markets.

For a small Canadian market team like the Flames this is absolutely terrible and we better build through the draft to have any chance of ever winning a championship again. Even then, you likely lose your superstars after their ELCs so this really could be the death of hope for teams like us.

With the added emphasis on sports gambling, I think being a hockey fan 5-10 years from now is going to be a completely different thing than what we grew up with.

Yes and no. I can see stars picking where they want to play more often but I think the salary cap prevents multiple stars playing together and winning.

Depends

Do we get to drive Benn out to the desert and leave him there?

I dont mind these ideas but doing all of them isn’t realistic.

Part of me kinda hopes we keep some of the guys we have to avoid a total tear down and insulate the incoming youth.

Out of the regulars that are still here I would prefer to keep:

Lindholm
Mangiapane
Dube
Andersson
Kylington
Vladar
Monahan - allow him to rebound here and see what his value is come TDL

That would leave:

Backlund
Coleman
Toffoli
Tanev
Hanifin
Zadorov
Markstrom

As trade pieces.

Tkachuk for Jamie Benn plus prospects is a big loss for Calgary imo. Benn is 33 years old and hasn’t hit 55 points in the past 4 years. This isn’t Benn from 7-8 years ago. He’s on the decline and is a 40-50 point player now.

It would but the Lightning have no reason to make that trade.

He’s a Center who has great chemistry with Kucherov and they’ve won two cups.

Also Point has 78 points in 76 career playoff games, Tkachuk has 15 in 27.

Unless Point has secretly demanded a trade it will not happen

Cause Stamkos is still a stud and they need a bit of a retool.
