I moved back to Canada from a reeeeaally bad time zone for watching the NHL just before covid. It was honestly a treat to watch the Flames this year in more ways than one, and losing Gaudreau and Tkachuk in the same off season is just brutal.

What can we do as fans besides hope the flames find a way to bounce back from this?

I doubt it. If he has a list of six teams, half of them probably can’t manage the cap hit. That’s why it’s so hard to make trades these days.

I’m not and have never been a real Matthew Tkachuk guy, especially for the dollars he’s about to get paid. Lots of holes in his game and don’t see him as ‘the guy’. Also if I’m being honest, the on-ice antics were cringe-worthy and something I stomached but never really embraced.

I’m a bit relieved with this news. I’ve been in camp rebuild for a couple of seasons now and after losing Johnny, that cemented it for me. Was hoping MT would make it easier for the front office to move in that direction.

What the flames do now will be very telling. If I’m Treliving I’m tripling down on trading for elite futures, not trying to sprinkle in some win now. Trading Tkachuk dramatically improves the value of our first round pick. Bringing back a top 6 forward as part of the exchange and not so much.

‘Tomorrow’ can come a lot sooner in a rebuild if we get this trade right. Fascinated to see what the Flames do.

I like what Seravalli said because I'm worried about how brutal some of the returns look like.

It's obvious looking at Tkachuk's list this is heavily for $ (minus STL). If they don't get the appropriate trade, let Tkachuk potentially drive his own value down playing without Gaudreau and NOT max on his dollars.

I'm not saying this out if spite but rather, see if he's willing to take that risk and/or get him to open up the list if a better offer from a team comes elsewhere.

All I can do is take solace in the fact that a well-coached team devoid of top talent like the 2021-2 LA Kings still made the playoffs and nearly won a round. So it's possible the Flames might still be somewhat competitive without JG and Chucky.

Sitting in my trailer and reminded of an old friend who described how they just started naming their pet cats “kitty”. Because so many of them met horrific ends. Like wifey running over them, coyotes etc etc etc. Like horrific. So rather than naming the parade of pets they all became “kitty”. Now, I’m sitting here in my trailer looking at my camping jersey. Thinking I’ll just rock my no name flames jersey.

Why is the goal to be “somewhat competitive?”

We want to build a team that can win it all, no?

If going through a few rough seasons is needed to restock with young talent , I’d prefer that to spinning our wheels as a team good enough to make it but not make any noise.
