This guy makes some good points, especially about the taxes.

And are we now at the bottom of the league in terms of desirable NHL cities?

Also, one of the rare opportunities in Calgary for a rookie to come in and steal the spotlight. I think that Pelletier and Phillips both start with an opportunity on the third line, and skies the limit if they impress Sutter.

Part of this is the NHL's piss poor job of promoting it's personalities, and creating marketing opportunity for their players. They are still stuck in the idea that the only players to promote are the absolute stars, and everyone else is buried. If being in a Canadian city meant a chance for some real deniro outside of the rink, and a chance at a post-career media job based on popularity, there might be more incentive for players to come to Canada.

Budweiser saw Brady Tkachuk accidentally during a broadcast and snapped him up as a sponsor.

Plug those two pieces into our lineup, and there is no way they are going to be rebuilding.
Kyrou, ROR, 1st.
Bratt, Mercer, 1st
Granlund, Tomasino, 1st
Fox and a 1st (hahahahaha)
Point, 1st
Beauvillier, Dobson, 1st
Bennett, Lundell, 1st (Duclair if Bennett is too on the nose)
Svechnikov and Jarvis
Pastrnak and Lysell

Similar with Doughty. Got in his head one game. Doughty won the next round by a long shot.

Is that Brayden Point and a first? I’d love to get Point… might be possible, don’t think a 1st would be included though.

If there is a Point for Tkachuck deal 1 for 1...you take that and run. You even take a cap dump if they need.

Not surprised and not so disappointed. Actually I expected Tkachuk will go FA or ask a trade after signing a new deal.
I will be more disappointed if Backlund, Lindholm, Dube or Lucic type of guys asked a trade. Then 7it means the Flames is one of worst team in the league.
For Tkachuk, I hope we can get potential 1 line player plus next years 1st. /at least/.
I guess Toffoli and Hanifin are open to be traded too.

And his NMC doesn’t kick in until next off season

Hate Nylander, way too soft.

That would be such a pointless trade for the Flames.

He is a high skill player like Gaudreau was. He is also a bit buried on the depth chart in Toronto. I would want a 1st instead of the 3rd but Nylander, Kerfoot, and a 1st for Tkachuk? I would be ok with that.

I don't think I have read this anywhere on the thread, but I think Calgary has some additional leverage too for negotiations with another team. This could realistically end up in a rare 'sign and trade' scenario, as Calgary can offer up the 8th year. Tkachuk being only 24 makes it a lot more attractive for a team.

Tkachuk as submitted his list, offers come in, and Flames select the one they like the best. Then they can sign Tkachuk for whatever deal they agreed to, and make the trade. There is additional value there somewhere.

So when they said that the Heat were moving to Calgary did they just mean the flames?

Don't know who Stephen Nixon is, but that's a fan scenario.

Player involved in many rumours + player who they have wanted to get rid of + meh, throw in the 3rd round pick to make it look better than it is.

Whoever the Flames trade Tkachuk to now, he can sign an 8 year deal with.

You can sign an 8 year deal with any team you're with prior to the trade deadline of that season.

Yeah that's a bad trade for the Flames. That's literally Nylander and a Cap Dump + a 3rd round pick. Typical Leafs proposal.

What if a Tkachuk trade brings in some nice pieces including at least one NHL ready goal scorer who is ready play in the top 6, and you replace the pesk factor by signing Kadri?

Before JG and Tkachuk wanted to leave, there was a pretty big desire to shake up the core after the disappointing post season. Maybe this presents a unique opportunity to retool this group and it all works out for the best.

Kadri is after $8M a season. Kadri is coming off an absolute outlier of a season. Whoever signs Kadri will regret it. I hope it is not us.
