The DeBrincat trade isn't "bad", it's fine. It's the Miller deal that the Canucks made. But what does it do? You gave up assets for a guy who A. may leave, B. doesn't answer the questions that are being asked currently, and C. makes it harder to actually answer those questions.

I love Miller. I hope he re-signs. A young RHD would have been nicer.

I think they could get Byfield and a 1st from LA.

NYR a little trickier because of the cap situation. I doubt Lefrenieire available because they need cheaper players.

I would wait until Ottawa blows their brains out on a 29 year old UFA before saying they are blowing it. DeBrincat is the same age range as most of their core.

…I’m just going to spend the night watching Kakko and Holtz highlights.

Hoping this trade gets done tomorrow.

Would have been a good fit in Seattle for the 4th OA.

Hopefully what's happened to us with Fox, Gaudreau and Tkachuk sends a message to other Canadian teams to stop drafting US players.

For the billionth time, if NHL were an option for them closer to home, plenty would pursue that.

Same age range with a ridiculous QO and the ability to walk himself to FA. Canucks are at least going to get a minimum of three years out of Miller when all is said and done. Even if DeBrincat re-signs he's going to be eating up such a big chunk of cap while their team can't stop a puck. And yes, I'm aware that Miller re-signing means the Canucks D-core remains a tire fire forever but that's sort of my point. It's what Canadian teams do.

Too bad Gaudreau dragged his decision past the draft

If Stockholm had an NHL team lots of Swedes would sign there.

I don’t remember all this complaining when Bouwmeester wanted to sign closer to home?

You draft the best player available unless you think that we’d be better off with Tyson Jost instead of Tkachuk, Michael St. Croix instead of Gaudreau and Cliff Pu instead of Adam Fox.

Hughes has like 5 years left. It's Miller who you should worry about... And I kind of think they're just going to sign him to a deal they can't really afford in order to avoid that possibility, which is arguably worse than losing him for nothing.

Anyway I don't agree that this means there's no room to make fun of the Canucks for the Juolevi thing. The Flames can still trade Tkachuk for a King's ransom. The Canucks have... Noah Juulsen.

I like the idea of Kyrou, but there's no point replacing Tkachuk with a 24 year old. By the time we're good enough to accomplish anything, we'll have wasted his prime years.

We need to go young. An 18 year old prospect and two firsts. You want a 24 year old 40 goal, 100 point superstar power forward who hasn't even entered his prime yet? Awesome. I'm glad you want him. Now pay up.

See my previous post =-o

I'm not worried about Hughes, I'm just pointing out he can bolt when he's up.

Feel bad for guys like Lindholm, Tanev, Markstrom, Backlund, etc. who are in their prime and want to be playing for a competitive team. If I'm Treliving, I'd talk to them individually and see if they want to get moved to a competitive team and do my best to find a good spot for them.

At this point the Flames really need to go full rebuild. We're losing a 24 year old cornerstone.

What a disastrous couple of weeks for the Flames.

At least Tkachuk is telling them he won't sign, so they can try to get something for him, unlike the other idiot who lead them on then bailed.

With 2/3 of the best line in hockey gone, I also think they should rebuild. They have lots of pieces with good to great value in which to get lots of picks quickly:

- Lindholm
- Markstrom
- Tanev
- Hanifin
- Coleman
- Backlund

Bottom out, get lots of picks for this upcoming draft & next and rebuild.

Oh, and stop drafting American players -- they are the new Russians.

I mean, it's five years away. Worrying about it now is pointless. Cross/burn that bridge when we get to it.

How ever, there's been nothing to indicate Hughes is gone asap. With Tkachuk and Gaudreau, it was pretty obvious from day one. Then again the only people that didn't think those two were gone the first chance they got were Flames fans, so I could be completely blind to it.

you can draft them, you just have to make sure you don't let them walk for nothing. Final year before UFA, you set a deadline to sign long-term, otherwise you trade them for assets ... no matter where you are in your "window".
