I suspect it was offered to both of them.
This team better have a huge effing chip on their shoulder next year.

Man these simplistic takes tire me.
Each player is different. Just because Brady signed doesn't mean Johnny was going to or Matthew was.
Wallow away I guess.

Really? I thought last season was the most fun in years, particularly post Covid.
Had things aligned differently we would have been in the WCF.

I think we should keep Monahan and hope he can bounce back. What do we have to lose? Right now he has negative value.

Sucks to be a small Canadian market. If I were Murray Edwards I'd be pushing hard during the next CBA negotiations to get a fairer deal for Canadian teams.
No wonder a Canadian team hasn't won the Cup in nearly 30 years. We struggle to keep our stars. Only a matter of time until we see the Canucks, Jets, Oilers and Senators lose their stars.

This seems true.

It was for sure.
But I was still bored of the core.
I'm core bored.
And I didn't have much confidence they could get out of the West. I felt they matched up poorly against the Oilers and that the Avs were superior.

This team is going no where next season, so why not tank for Bedard and jumpstart the next core ASAP rather than drag your heels like the Iggy era ended up.
|
With Darryl here, don't count on any rebuild.

I agree. I'm hoping for more of a retool than a burn it all down rebuild though but either way I'm on board for change.

Well this sucks, what’s going on in the Flames organization?
I also wonder if Sutter will be back.
Is the team on the verge of moving? Losing your top players in one off season has to be unprecedented.
At least we’ll get something in return.

It is what it is. Use this to get an influx of young players to set you up.
Then sign guys that want to play here.
Its a good learning experience for this management group to never fall into this trap again.
#### American players like this though. Thanks for the heads up Chucky.

I wonder if Sutter retires again or moves to an advisor role. Leave them with no choice.
Whether it's rebuild or retool, I hope they build their forward group at the centre position.

It was. But with those two contracts, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to sustain it. They might decline (certainly there's no real upward mobility possible), but moreover, you probably were losing Mangiapane, Kylington, you have to replace Gudbranson already, you're going to have to pay some of the younger guys in a year or two.

This is a pretty sober and accurate assessment of where things are today. Worse, none of it can be easily fixed/changed. I wouldn't be shocked if the next thing we hear is "the team's moving to US" announcement. Heartbroken – yes, but not shocked.
