Yeah, as a season ticket holder I am extra salty they moved their renewal dater all the way up to when the playoffs were happening.
I have no idea how I'm going to find people to buy 1/4 or 1/2 a season now. The Flames 'L' here is going to be mine, too.

This provides a great opportunity to restructure the team.
And Tkachuk is being professional about it, which is helpful and appreciated.
Top contracts last year:
1) Tkachuk: $7M
2) Gaudreau: $6.75M
3) Monahan: $6.375M
6) Lucic: $5.25M
That's $13.75M freed up this year, and $11.625M next year. Plus, Giordano's $6.75M came off last year.
Obviously, losing players is not good. But the upside is that the Flames are a blank canvas at this point. And they have a ton of valuable assets in Lindholm, Coleman, Markstrom, and Tanev. And some young pieces to build around like Mangiapane and Andersson, etc
I don't think things are all that bad.

This trade talk will be fun at the very least.

Honestly, I'm looking at all of this as a positive. Obviously it would have been nice to get a return for JG, but did we really want to have ~$22mm tied up between JG and MT?
The goal is to win a cup. Not just to be competitive. I don't think we win a cup with those two guys tying up 22mm in cap. Let the rebuild begin.
But still fml.

A bit worried that two of the Flames best prospects are Wolf and Coronato.

I'd be putting them on fansfirst.ca
But I wonder what the interest will be.

I believe in the Jays.

Well this off season sucks.
On the bright side though, I really didn’t believe it was ever going to be a winning strategy to have 20+ mil tied up with two wingers, one who can’t play physically, and the other who can’t skate.

Quite an impressive implosion. Lindholm must be feeling great right now. Bet he wishes his contract was due to end a year earlier too.

Don't mind this leaking because I already sort of figured as much, but I do mind that Tkachuk effectively created a NTC for himself by leaking the teams he's willing to sign with, hurting Tre's leverage in negotiations. One of those teams being a divisional rival. Oh you're willing to sign with Vegas, that's great.

On the bright side the 1 game Columbus is coming to town would have decent demand. (Also whoever Tkachuk ends up moving to)

Was fun while it lasted. I can understand not wanting to stay with Johnny in Columbus, but you’d think the lure of staying in Calgary and being the star would have some appeal. But if that’s not what he wants then let’s get him out of here.
As it stands, I’ll probably be a bigger Brady fan by the time Matthew’s officially gone.

I could put them there, but inevitably I'm just going to be taking a loss to try and move them. If I have to sell them a game at a time, there's almost no chance somebody is paying the price I did.
And the Flames as an org are going to have to slash prices to fill the building, too -- can't wait for the 'specials.'

The fact that he provided a list of places he would be willing to sign long term should help the return.
Teams included on that list will be able to bid knowing that he must likely won't be a rental. I wonder if the flames will give permission for this list of teams to discuss a contract with Chucky.

Let's make the trade happen. I can care less for any players that don't want to be part of the Flames. I just hope the Flames can build a more competitive team going forward, not this mediocre crap for the last 10-15 years.

This is an epic failure on the flames management team as well. Brad Treliving failed over and over. Send him packing now with Tkachuk. I’m embarrassed to be a Flames fan today and these last few weeks. Clearly something is really wrong behind the scenes. Bennett. Fox. Gaudreau. Tkachuk. What a mess.

Sorry man. It's always fun to argue/debate on here. But watching ppl get stuck with over priced tickets for what is likely to be a bad product is not fun in any way.
