I'm actually ok with this. Rebuild here we come! Just need to make sure to get a solid return for Tkachuk and then go from there.
This might be a good season for Monahan to really step up and lead this team. Dude is prime for a bounce back season, provided he can remain healthy. Poor guy is made of glass.

Oh well. No blue chip prospects (other than Wolf) to be excited about either. Tough summer. With all this news, can’t even take a break from hockey.

I like the idea of selling Hanifin for some picks and prospects and building a goon squad. Really take a pound of flesh every game. At least that will be entertaining

There are lots of options: absorb cap, take picks and prospects; take good players; combination of the two.

Moved his whole family from Texas to play with Gaudreau (and Tkachuk) and signed long term.
He'll want out regardless of his wallet or cups.

Maybe there will be after he's traded.

Tkachuk is a unique player in this league and it really sucks to lose him...

Disaster of an offseason.
My guess is he goes to NJ for Jesper Bratt + 1st or something like that.

Hopefully he moves out East. Playing against him often would be terrible.

Ya we can. We've had him for a good solid 6 years. Juelovi can't even make the NHL anymore.

Not many teams can take on his expected salary. Flames will have to take salary back in a trade and the kind of player they take back will be key as to whether it is a rebuild (highly unlikely) or reshuffle.

Names I immediately think of for each team listed:
St. Louis - Kyrou/O'Reilly/Tarasenko/Perunovich
Vegas - Wouldn't even bother
Florida - Lundell
Nashville - Nothing I'd like
Dallas - Hintz/Robertson/Johnston/Bourque
New Jersey - Mercer/Bratt/Holtz/Sharangovich. Don't see them moving Hischier.
New York Rangers - Lafreniere/Chytil/Schneider

Hmm guess the team can use the 160m alloted to Tkachuk and Gaudreau, to pay for that arena that should have been built by now.
The conspiracy theorist in me is wondering if the flames are moving soon. Timing of the arena deal falling through, stars leaving and the ahl team coming to Calgary....

We just bought a house in Calgary and are moving in next month. I promised the kids that they'd finally get to see Gaudreau and Tkachuk in person playing for their favourite team.
I'm going to be making this one up to them for a while.
