At least he is giving some options. I guess that's a win? At this stage of free agency I'll take it.

Honestly if he has told the team that, including what teams he'd be willing to sign long-term with - he's handling it in a mature and professional way that will allow his current team to get some good value.

Good on him. I have zero issue with that.

has a team ever lost two 100 point players in the same offseason? Christ on a bike.

I would really hate a return like this. Just say no to Tarasenko.

Tkachuk is our most valuable asset. Please Flames do the right thing and target picks and prospects exclusively.

You can’t lose your best two players and expect to compete the very next season. Let’s tear it down and build through the draft. 2023 is a heck of a time to start.

Yep, I'm disappointed but this is the best way possible he could handle it IMO.

Not surprising, but disappointing at the same time. At least we'll get something for him.

Just got the score alert on this. I think it’s a blessing in disguise much like Gaudreau’s departure. He’s not the franchise player he makes himself out to be but his unique skill set should gain us a very good haul. The unfortunate part is the news is public but whatever. Treliving can work over a few teams now.

I wonder how long the trade talks take to find a deal. Does this stretch out to training camp?

This sucks not only from the obvious talent level, but Calgary is losing two of the more interesting characters that made them interesting to watch.

Gaudreau as the tiny terror.
Tkachuk as the s--- disturber/agitator who actually had a hockey IQ to go with it.

It felt good having those kinds of stories on the team and played a big part in the sort of identity I saw the team having or what I loved about watching the Flames and being a fan.

Tarasenko and Z follow each other on Instagram for what it's worth. Would be a solid trade for us. Would love Kyrou + ROR even more though. I think Sutter would want Tre to build down the middle of the ice, and have centre depth comparable to what he had in LA.

At least with this many teams in the mix, we can create a bidding war. I don't see ownership wanting to rebuild, so any trade that returns two top six forwards I'd be okay with.

I do not understand why everyone is so suddenly upset about this. Everyone kept wanting to trade Tkachuk after 2021 season and saying that this core doesn't have what it takes to win but then Sutter solved all the issues. Tkachuk is not worth over 9 million imo, especially without Johnny.

I still believe that this team was this good only because of Sutter, and once Sutter would have left Johnny would become a sub 80 point player and Tkachuk would follow, I would way rather rebuild/retool. This will sting in short term but I do believe this will be the best outcome in a couple of years, too much recency bias here

i dont want any roster players come back. get 2x 1sts and 2x prospects. Move markstrom as well and take a shot at Bedard. Why not at this point.

1. guy who is upfront with his expectations - allows the Flames to deal with confidence of all the facts

2. guy who is emotional over where he is going and ends up making a last minute decision handcuffing us

I don't know which I prefer but for business #1 everytime.

There's a middle ground between total rebuild and competing this season.
I believe what they will try to do is reset the clock a little but not go the full distance of a re-build. Acquire a young player with more control (we are going to hear a lot about contract control going forward) plus some other pieces.
