Hockey Prospecting has Holtz and Mercer projecting very similarly, both should stick in the NHL and have a moderate chance of becoming a star.

Spoiler!

Tkachuk isn’t returning more than the Sabres got for Eichel.

Good young 2nd line winger.

Recent 10-20 OA pick.

Late 1st round pick.

Well, yeah. I know what the projections are. I was simply pointing out that Mercer passed the eye test for me...and easily. Holtz hasn't had the opportunity yet.

Eichel had a career high of 82 points (2018-2019). We should be getting a better package for Tkachuk

There is that too, Tkachuk is a demonstrably better hockey player than Eichel.

Good young 2nd line winger? I raise you an elite young 1st line winger.

When is Tkachuks post trade, never performed in a hockey player, potentially career altering spine surgery taking place?

Other teams fanbases, for clarity on how insane some of ours appear here.

There are some trade packages I would be legitimately excited about there.

Buffalo, Canes, Devils, Blues, Habs (seems like this one would never happen though)

The best is that Bratt is a point of contention for both fanbases for opposite reasons. The Devils fans don’t want to trade him, and Flames fans don’t want him (as part of a Tkachuk return)

I wouldn't say I don't want Bratt. I don't want him to be the key piece. If he needs to be included to make the cap work, fine. But key pieces in a trade with NJ should start with at least one of Holtz & Mercer.

Eichel though plays a more important position
Wingers are easier to get

Bratt had almost identical production to Kyrou last year, same draft class, both wingers, neither are American, Kyrou is a bit bigger I guess. If I was okay with a Kyrou centrepiece (not saying I am) I'd be okay with a Bratt centrepiece too. You'd also have to think a NJ first would be a lot higher than a St. Louis first.

Granted I don't watch much of either of them play so maybe there's something I'm missing.

I guess. Off the top of my head, I would say the following centers are better than Eichel

McDavid
Draisaitl
MacKinnon
Matthews
Stamkos
Point
Barkov
Lindholm
Crosby
Zibanajed
Aho

Past there you have a whole host that one can debate who is better (IMO) including

Bergeron
Scheifele
Miller
Tavares
Thomas
Kopitar
Pavelski
Soon to be Jack Hughes

I would say you have a pretty reasonable case to say that there are at least 10 centers who are better than Eichel, maybe as high as 15. Since there are twice as many wingers, I think one would be hard pressed to put together a list of 20-30 wingers that are better than Tkachuk.

Center is an important position, but if you are talking about a 200 foot game, at least 30% of the time, maybe even higher, Eichel will not be the best center on the ice in any given game. It is not like the guy is a top 5 center in the league.

He’s a legit top line centre which is amongst the toughest things to find
There are way more wingers that can do the job on the top line even if tkachuk is one of the best
A top line winger has the approximate value of a second line centre in my view.
I have a feeling you are setting the bar for a return for tkachuk raally high so no matter what the trade is it will feed your narrative that BT sucks

^^^^ Isles, Canes, Habs (maybe Buffalo) coming in with serious fan based offers. I like how the one team not putting up a serious bid are the Leaf fans. "Our 5th and 10th best players, but I don't know... I feel like Calgary needs to add".
