I find this a baffling take! I'd want to talk with him about extensions first, but Barzal for Tkachuk is almost a dream in potentially saving the team's future. Lindholm-Barzal as 1-2 centre punch for the next 2 seasons at least.
|
I can be educated more on Bratt but I don't see Barzal as a consistent player, and last I saw, neither do NYI fans.
I agree he's a perfect 2C, which is how he started out. Sheltering his defensive duties between Lindy and Backlund would be great. It comes down to how much he wants and whether he re-signs at all. I just saw Bratt as a fit on Sweden west.

100% agree. Barzal is one of my favorite players to watch and I think he has crazy untapped potential. His numbers under trotz were lower but he’s even talked about how trotz pushed him to develop his 2 way game. When he wants to take over and make dmen look silly, he’s one of the few players who can actually do it. McDavid mackinnon eichel all have that same trait

Why have his points dropped for two years in a row? I liked him in some games but he turned invisible in others.
His defensive game left him last year it seems.

Yeah. And he’s a big part of the team. What happened? Almost an identical team from before.

Comparing Barzal to those guys is not realistic, he has no untapped potential, he is 25 years old and had one really good season as a 1st line C. He is a 2nd line C that can get you 50-65 points. Thus why I said I would want a sweeter from the Isles in a deal revolving around those two.

Even on a short term deal Tkachuk is getting close to $10 mil and an 8 year deal likely getting $11 mil or more. Land Barzal you could trade Monahan and be left with millions to sign a couple wingers or be patient and wait for an opportunity to land or draft a star next off season
People seem to be struggling with the value of the cap. I said a few weeks ago to get Tkachuk for 8 years it would be 8 x $11 mil. People thought I was crazy to suggest it yet here we are. Sounds like it could take more
I bet we could re-sign Barzal this summer for $8 mil or slightly more. That’s no brainer vs Tkachuk at $11 mil +

They didn’t - Barzal’s PPG the last two years are 0.82 and 0.81.
Before that, 0.88, 0.77, 1.04 (with Tavares getting the tougher matchups).
Seems perfectly consistent production wise - his availability is a much larger concern, but even then it isn’t the worst - missing 14, 1 and 9 games over the last three years is fine.

I saw .88 to .82 and then .81 as a drop. His 1.04 I saw as a highly sheltered anomaly. And his .77 is an outlier as well.
So fine, he’s a .8 PPG guy. That’s $7M, like he’s been getting. And he’s going to be looking for more. I like the guy especially his wheels. But Isles fans seem to think he’s not as advertised. maybe their expectations are that he was going to be Brayden Point and he’s not.

Barzal would be highly sheltered here though. That or lindy will be getting much softer treatment.

Between Lindholm and Backlund taking the hard minutes, Barzal could get some really soft minutes.

I'd bet on Sutter to get the best out of a player like Barzal.

THIS. Don’t want to be the Debbie Downer, but I see Barzal’s name in a ton of trade proposals here, and I just see a player who is overrated. He’s blazing fast, but he’s not really elite in any aspect of the game. He reminds me a bit of Matt Lombardi-fans like him because he can be electrifying at times, but he’s no superstar, and never will be.

Convince Yzerman to trade Larkin for Tkachuk.

I think Barzal is a classic bad-team star. He will make some incredible plays, look great at times, and entertain the fans, but the consistency and the ability or desire to do the little things that help you win, are lacking.

Could totally see a Barzal type deal happen especially with Lou creaming for Tkachuk’s game. Personally I like Barzal’s shiftiness and speed as it’s a plus for the game but agree Tkachuk’s value is probably higher. Would be nice to have him plus 2 2nds for Tkachuk.
