Again the bluff should go both ways. Does he want to do a "bet on me" year without JG, with that risk?
We need to take some leverage back here as well. So if teams are circling over us like vultures then take the arb and evaluate across the season.
|
Nah, even if we were full tank mode we don’t need this at our camp and all season. Handle it before camp. Start fresh, whatever that is.

Honestly who gives a #### about the Oilers. The Flames are losing their best players since Iginla in a matter of weeks. This honestly feels like the early 90s again watching multiple star players leave.

Well it is like that. Piss poor week for Flames fans. There is absolutely no sane way to justify how the Flames got to this point from an asset management perspective.

Thing is we only need 2-3 teams to play off one another. Lots of pressure in Philly and NYI who haven't made any moves and you can bet they will want a shiny new toy to show their fans that they did something. We have ability to take back some money as well so I don't think it will be as bad as some think. Should be able to get back a couple of good players and maybe more. Add the JT Miller dynamic as the same teams that are in on Tkachuk are probably in on Miller too. Buckle down!

Sorry didn’t mean to jump on you re the oilers. Just furious with how this has all unfolded. It’s just defeating if you can’t event hold onto your best players that have spent years with your organization. I mean that speaks volumes when two players leave a competitive team with tons of money being thrown their way.

I am willing to hear it. I am trying to change myself into a guy who cheers for Brad and not the logo on the jersey, but it is a slow process.

Maybe Vancouver wants him back? We'll take Hughes.

I am still trying to process what is potentially happening here? I can understand that Johnny wanted to leave, makes sense in some ways because of the rumors from him years ago. Like it or not, they did end up being valid.
Now we are talking about Chucky, who a lot believe should be the next long term captain? Why are players literally bolting from Calgary? There has to be more than this in a lot of ways. I don't buy the weather and the arena situation. Calgary's facilities for an athlete perspective I don't believe are poor and if they are, we can mitigate and improve that. The fan's experience is not the same as the players experience. Weather? Plenty of NHL cities have terrible weather in the winter.
This isn't like the 90's where we couldn't afford to keep players due to the costs and the escalating salaries. This seems different.

That's the Mark Stone scenario and I think Treliving will avoid that at all costs. A deal is getting done either with or for Tkachuk before arbitration.

You absolutely cannot let Chucky play out a season with one foot out the door. No chance in hell. Guaranteed his value will tank. Even if he'd be playing for a payday he's not going to be any better offers than this offseason.
Is defcon 4 right now to absolutely get this Tkachuk issue done right. If they eff this up, there's no turning it around.
I'm honestly not confident at all the management team is up to the task at hand. And I desperately want them to prove me wrong.
Where's the Gandalf the White we need out of Treliving?

Based on cap hit alone, Detroit isn't sending Raymond, who's controlled for 5 years at a cheaper price, for Tkachuk.
And it's very unlikely that Tkachuk signs an extension with all of those teams.

The whole situation is weird. The other Tkachuk’s have made longterm commitments to the cities that they played in (Brady at least 10 years in Ottawa) and Keith 10 years to the Jets/Coyotes org and 10 years to the Blues. Matthew is walking after 6 years. Seems out of character compared to his brother and dad.

Insane makes it sound like there were lots of other, easily doable and obvious options. And that the options chosen was inevitably going to lead here.
Well, it was not insane to (a) not trade Gaudreau in 2021 after a poor couple seasons and with him still saying he could well re-sign; (b) not trade Gaudreau prior to the TDL when he was still making all the right noises (including making demands for specific numbers) and you are really just trading his rights (and then only to 5 potential teams unless he waives).
I'm not sure what's insane about Tkachuk. Numerous other teams had to use similar short term contracts that year - he got what the cap would allow and more years would have cost more dough they didn't have. Unless you throw the bank at him (and even then who knows what he does) I'm not sure what you do after that.

Honestly does everyone forget the multiple years of rumours that Tkachuk wanted to play in St. Louis?
I know this is a one-two gut punch. But, this exact scenario was predicted by everyone before they even joined the league.
