I don't see how this trade plays out in the way of a "hockey trade"
The teams Chucky would want to sign long-term with are teams that are contenders (so they don't want to subtract much from their active roster) or are entering a contending window (who don't want to subtract much from their active roster).
Best outcome in my eyes is to target teams like Ottawa and New Jersey. Teams who have a recent history of picking near the top but are now looking to contend. Perhaps NYR fits into that as well (Kaako?).
Hopefully at the end of the day we're talking about a top-prospect (Sanderson? Holtz?), a 1st round pick, and some more...

You take the best player available.
Fox was a 3rd
Gaudreau was a 4th
Tkachuk was a high pick but he still was the no brainer pick at that spot.
Even with hindsight you still make each of those picks 10 / 10 times.

There's this idea that Sutter would stand in the way of a rebuild somehow and I don't see it. He's been GM of this team before, had the same problems with working in this market that Treliving does. I don't think he's going to stamp his feet and say "it's me or a rebuild." He's missing two 100 point scorers in his roster, he understands the situation they're in

And Darryl. Could someone go to the farm with a mic and interview Darryl?

How many seats would they fill in the regular season with a $60m team?
Some of us remember what the crowds were like the last time the Flames were a budget team. And I use the word ‘crowds’ loosely.

Not an easy thing to try and throw together and feel good about what you are getting back or then have to deal.

In what world is 1 year of Tkachuk worth more than 5 years of Raymond?

Something like that is my guess.

I just feel it's really unlikely that these teams give up any young roster players close to this value for Tkachuk.
So if the Flames are looking to errantly make a hockey trade, I think it's going to be quality for quantity.

The Flames averaged over 100% attendance in 2013/2014, the club's worst season ever.

All of those would see an extension signed by Tkachuk.

Why? There are still very good players on this team and who knows who you add in that trade. There is no quick turn around on a rebuild and that involves a huge amount of luck. Colorado and Tampa showed it was a decade before failing paid off.... and again some luck in there with lottery balls and idiots in Montreal trading Sergachev for Drouin. Edmonton is 7 years into 2 of the best players in the world and have won 3 playoff series (2 this year) and have just above a 500 win percentage in those 7 years.

You need to look up cap space and explain again how this won’t be a hockey trade. Not sure which teams have $11M to throw at Tkachuk right now? Ottawa has 17 players signed and 11.6M in cap space. I also don’t see Chucky wanting to go to the team where his little brother is captain and they haven’t made the playoffs in 5 years. The Devils have 9.6M in space with 19 players signed but still have their top winger Bratt to sign and Wood.
Contending teams looking for a shakeup are the likely targets. Maybe there are useless cap dumps there but I don’t think the flames are looking to take on any long term bad deals.
I think the Devils could work something out if they part with Bratt in the deal.

hard to burn it down. too many good players to get rid of in a short period of time, and not enough buyers.
Mostly of those buyers already have Chicago players anyway, and don't need the Flames players at this point.
Flames will still be a playoff team, even without Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
