It's hard to imagine that playing out. So far there is no real "best players" in the liv, since they have no one in the top 15, so there's not much of an appetite for combined events. If Cantlay and Smith went over, then that changes a lot of things.
I don't see the PGA allowing its players to play in a combined tournament though.
If the liv roster stays as is, it is pretty easy to ignore it as a bunch of has-beens whose golf skills deteriorate playing nine 54 hole/guaranteed money events.
If the liv tour gets Smith and Cantlay, and bring some more top 15 players with them, then the pga tour loses a lot of leverage and luster, and may be forced into something.
If the liv tour somehow does pull this off and becomes the top tour, then I'm pretty much out as a golf fan. Guaranteed contracts with Saudi princes deciding who is worthy to be on their tour becomes just like the other pro sports and kills the essence and meritocracy that makes pro golf one of my favorite sports to watch.
How does liv even get their stars if they kill off the pga tour? Do all the current big names get to stay on and play into their 50s and 60s? What happens to the guys in the bottom of the roster when they get replaced by bigger stars but are banned from playing elsewhere?
