I think it has stayed quite consistent in its crap levels.

It would have been one of the first things the burglar would have seen from a window or once they entered and them seeing that there were potentially guns in the home didn’t deter them one bit, in fact they stole they gun too.

Interesting choice of words.

You owning a gun doesn’t change whether or not a random person can enter your home and assault you with a gun, nor does it make it any more or less likely to occur. It might in the case of targeted hits if you were in a gang or something, but I’m guessing that is probably not the case.
Agreed it won’t make a difference if you aren’t home and someone breaks in. I can guarantee that it would make a difference if I was home and heard someone breaking in though. Staring down the barrel of a double barrel shot gun is going to get anybody’s ass in gear to GTFO.

Not if they shoot you first.

How does that have anything to do with being a “badass” what moron would just sit there while their house is being broken into or family members assaulted if they had the proper means for protection.

I think sliver was referring to your assumption that with certainty you having a gun would convince someone to GTFO.

It would be a lot more of a persuasion then yelling from your bedroom that your going to call the cops.

Again, not if they shoot you first.

Look I get it, you’ve convinced yourself that a gun will protect you even in the event that armed burglars enter your home.

Makes you wonder how there are so many innocent people gunned down in the states when everyone has the right to bear arms.

I think yelling that you’ve called the cops would be a sufficient deterrent in nearly every situation. Do you think someone breaking into your house just wanted to rough everyone up like some kind of movie?

I’m imagining most people would be shaking with fear and adrenaline. then picture their long gun bouncing around exaggerating this shaking. All assuming you can even get it out of your storage in a reasonable amount of time. Super intimidating lol

No, no, they practiced at the range and that’s the same as real life experience.

So everyone that owns guns have only practiced at a range a few times? What if you’ve served in the military, or have grown up shooting and hunting since a kid. Again we can agree to disagree but I feel much more comfortable being able to protect myself. If your comfortable calling the cops and hiding in your closet then that’s fine as well.

Making you feel more comfortable isn’t the same as changing the outcome.

In any event I wouldn’t go hide in a closet I’d probably just go talk to the person, that’d likely be far more painful for them.

How often do armed burglars break into an occupied house?

Non targeted armed house robberies in Canada with family home? Don't have the stats handy but I'd be willing to bet you're into lotto type odds.

And the chances of armed break-in criminals actually using said firearms against innocent families in those small percentage of cases is even more minuscule...unless of course a home owner starts screaming and pointing their own firearm, creating panic and stress for everyone brandishing guns. Then the chances of firearm discharge with wife and kids present probably goes way the **** up.

Or maybe the homeowner shouts a perfectly worded movie style line in relaxing but confident tone, with a calmly held gun in the dark, while the armed robbers stare on with wonder and mutual respect, lowering their weapons and awaiting the police arrival.
