Him being the captain of that team makes it a little concerning as well though I realize that doesn’t point to him being in the room or not at the time in anyway. Yikes all around on this entire story, hopefully the survivor is ok through this whole process as I’m sure it’s not fun to have to relive this all.

Makes me wonder if it’s why we haven’t seen Sam Steel sign

Do not like the Dube statement, which suggests to me he’s taking some refuge behind the police not proceeding with charges. It’s certainly less than “not involved in any way” like Fabbro/Makar/Gadjovich.

A weak-kneed police investigator might well decide he didn’t want the headache and press when one girl makes a complaint and 8 hockey prospects deny it. Even if their stories don’t exactly make common sense or smell fishy.

If Dube was one of the players involved, they have to suspend him until a resolution has been made.

Don't really see any good way out of this.

This has been an absolute offseason to forget as a Flames fan.

But yeah. Not clear who was involved specifically.
It’s not even that far. It’s “not involved in any wrongdoing”. Maybe because they say the police not pressing charges = no wrongdoing. If he said “not involved in the incident” or “not involved in the alleged wrongdoing” I’d be more comfortable.

The one thing I noticed is that a bunch of them were referred to as giving the response “above” which was basically the lawyer letter. But Dube’s was given separately (though it sounded almost identical).

Dube will get more heat regardless if he was involved or not being the captain, so maybe that's why but I have a hard time believing he wouldn't have at least known what happened

Oh, I bet they all heard of it after, involved or not. I don’t think being the captain of a short lived tournament team that last played several months before is any factor at all. They aren’t captains like an NHL or even monitor league team that have some sort of role in player communications. It’s way more honorary and an on-ice thing. It doesn’t even mean he was a leader on or off the ice IMO, as opposed to a guy who had already been in the tournament once before.

Why in today's society is everyone so quick to try and read into anything to find a person guilty? His lawyer said he had nothing to do with anything wrong doing and people want to twist that into he's guilty? I am not saying anything about Dube in this situation because we don't know but maybe take a step back until we do before suggesting he is trying to cover something up he did.

Nobody is twisting anything. People are commenting on the wording and how it seems strange compared to other statements made, and speculating as to why the statement was worded so strangely, which it is.

It basically amounts to them saying Dube didn't do anything wrong, because he cooperated with police and police cleared all players of any wrongdoing. Why not just flat out deny it like others?

I'd be careful what you post in here, that lawyer statement has a pretty strong warning about defamation and rightfully so.

Maybe you armchair investigators should just shut it and let the real investigators so the investigating.

No one is putting anyone on the gallows here.

When you have an undisputed incident involving multiple parties with a variety of interactions with the incident, you can infer a lot from what the statements are and how they are worded. Commenting on statements isn’t putting people on a stake.

I’m emotionally preparing myself that Dube may have been a part of this because that's exactly what 2022 would pile on for Flames fans.

Pretty sure one would be fine with the defence of fair comment. Dube’s agent made a statement, folks have an opinion on that statement.

No one here has said anything defamatory. Not even close. That’s all huff and puff in that letter.

Glad Dube finally made a statement through his lawyer. It, of course, is carefully worded but says he wasn't part of the actual vile acts. If he was in the room that's awful, especially since he was the captain. Hoping he wasn't.

Being complicit isn't great either. Hopefully that's not what gets pinned on Dube. But, as Captain if he had knowledge and di nothing? Then thats a deeper issue compounding the entire culture surrounding the events

Actually, it says he, like every other player, did not engage in wrongdoing because all players were cleared of any wrongdoing. So it doesn’t really say anything outside of the fact that all players were cleared of wrongdoing and anyone associating Dube with alleged criminal acts (of which there are none, if we follow the logic of all players being cleared of any wrongdoing) will be in trouble.

It’s a bizarre statement but doesn’t tell us anything about Dube outside of “all players were cleared of wrongdoing” and “we may sue if you say otherwise.”
