I dont know if its real...but I hope it was.

Whatever else is going on or how people feel about the entire situation...that is hilarious.

Don't need no goodbye poem Johnny. Just wither in CLB. See how good you do without your linemates.

It really depends on the phrasing of the conversation.

"If you give me this offer, I'll take it."

Is a lot different than:

"If you give me this offer I'll consider it."
This is where I'm at - I think the sides weren't necessarily on the same page about what getting to an 'agreeable' number meant. It would probably behoove 13's camp to make that crystal clear...maybe did and just didn't format it like: "if you get to 10.5 then we'll consider it" ...it's also easy to imagine a game of telephone where Gross uses those exact words to Tre, who relays it to Murray/other execs without the last 4 bolded words (conclusions are jumped, insanity ensues).

As for the rumour posted here (and now apparently repeated by folks like Friedman):
- BT or Murray or whoever else might confirm this would not necessarily be wrong to say that Johnny "asked" for 10.5
- 13's camp would not be wrong to say it was always about meeting a minimum threshold to make a final yes/no decision

Remember there seemed to be a pretty long delay for any kind of 'counter-offer' from 13's camp...could have been just not wanting to show their hand too much for whatever reason

I can't help but wonder...

If Johnny and his wife divorce, can he claim the missed income that he gave up for her?

"I gave up millions of dollars because you wanted Columbus over Calgary!"

Yeah. Not much different than this one.

Three days later after all the backlash...Yay lol

The guy totally strung the Flames along for leverage...he seems surprised people are asking him about Calgary at all.

Bottom like though winning is not at the top of his list so we are probably better off long term

Well he left ~$15M on the table so it obviously 'wasnt about the money.'

Yep, 100%. The fans here can only see red right now just out of blind rage. He did so much good for this team and community.

To me, I see a good husband who decided to put his wife and family first before himself as we all would.

I bet you that the only reason the Flames were still even in the picture was because Johnny tried his best to convince his wife to come back. But it had to work out for her and sadly, Calgary didn’t work out here for her which as I’ve said many times, I can understand.

After watching the Tim interview I am convinced he was conflicted as to which way to go, and it was a very tough decision for him. I think he made a bit of a tactical blunder with his UFA status and ended up having to take a less competitive team but one that in some way works for his family/lifestyle situation. Either way, that's his choice to make. It doesn't reflect badly on his character.

Might be trying to find the silver lining but increasingly I don't think committing 8*10.5 to this player was going to put the Flames in position to win a Cup. At some point that contract was going to be a hinderance
Near-term it puts them further away.
Long-term if handled correctly it could put them closer.

And yes this is where people can rightly point out "but yeah what are the chances the Flames make the right decisions to improve their long-term chances".

But since I've said, you don't have to.

It sounded a bit to me like Johnny kind of wanted to transition into a new phase of life, and that moving away from Calgary was part of that for him. That's fine. I hope it makes them happy. He just really ####ed up the communication and how to handle himself and his relationships during the process.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't hate him or angry with him. I just find the whole situation bizarre. I've actually found myself laughing out loud how the whole thing turned out.

You want to leave to move closer to family with your wife? Sure, I totally get that. No problem. Flames lowball you and and you left for a better offer? Sure, I wouldn't like it and would probably be more upset with the Flames if anything.

But no Philly, or Jersey, or Islanders. And leave about 15 million on the table. For Columbus.

I'm not mad. I'm just bewildered.

The whole 'it was time to leave Calgary' or whatever he said is fine too if he felt that way. But maybe say that a week or two, or even a month or two ago.

The whole thing was just weird. I'm not going to boo the guy, because I still don't think we really know why he left, regardless what he's saying.

I only watched the 45 second clip but he sounded so much more confident and you know, well spoken, than, you know, in that CBJ press conference.

You know.

He’s there for 3 or less. When Torts is fired and Fletcher follows, he’s traded to Philly.
No front end load of his contract means CBJ knows that too.

It's not irrational at all. He put himself in a no win situation.
