Just stop pretending already. Tkachuk isn't staying and the team is a lot worse than their team that wasn't good enough last year.
Start developing players that you can trade for assets instead always giving assets away. See what kind of talent you have in the system and try to build from within, stop "going for it".

Just a thought, I don't think an offersheet is the way to go. Giving up a 1st in the Bedard draft is not ideal, and we have given up too many 1sts in general in recent years. BUT, maybe Columbus would accept trading down given their cap situation.
Would they accept Mangiapane for Laine? They would get a guy who is coming off a 35 goals season and is apparently close with their new prized possession in Gaudreau which may make signing him to a reasonable contract easier. The Flames would get a highly offensive player that could replace some of what they lost in Gaudreau, and more of a shooter which the Flames need more IMO.
Not that Columbus is looking to do anyone any favours, but they could more easily fit Mangiapane under their cap and would get back a player who can score. After signing Gaudreau, they probably would rather make a run for the playoffs than pick up draft picks if someone gave an offersheet.
Just a thought. Feel free to murder me with words.

I’d rather have Mangiapane than Laine.

Pretending? Look, I've been pretty shakey on the Flames but they built a rock solid body of work last season. Subtract Johnny and add some actual size that will grind out in the corners, I don't think we will miss him thay much.

No thanks on Laine. If we are trading with Columbus, I’d like a Monahan for Nyquist swap. Both have had injury issues, and the Jackets could use a center. I think Nyquist would be a good player with Coleman and Backlund, moving Mangiapane up with Tkachuk and Lindholm.

Also, life will be better without the wonderous amazement of Brett Ritchie in the ice.

Did he sign somewhere, or is Brad just waiting on Chucky before he can sign Ritchie back up.

115 pts vs. size that will grind in the corner...and its not just his points, it's the points others got because of him. He's the only guy who carried the puck in. He's the guy other teams would send their top defenders against. The rest of the roster is pretty vanilla.
And they lost Gudbranson...who was actual size that would grind in the corner.

Yes and no.
On the one hand, the temptation to go scorched earth is very real, especially with Bedard up for grabs.
On the other.
Johnny Gaudreau just told the world you couldn’t pay him enough to play in this town.
When Panarin and Bobrovsky left Columbus, they didn’t trade Werenski - they turned around and gave him 8 x 9.53. They had to show the league that they aren’t some stink hole market that can’t keep anybody.
The Flames are in the same spot, except their team is better than CBJ’s was without the two Russians. They almost have to Re-sign Tkachuk, just to prove they can.
He’s only 24. He’s got a 100 point season under his belt, and he’s been to the playoffs four times.
They have the cap space. Next year more than $11M comes off the books between Monahan and Lucic alone.
Coleman, Andersson and Markstrom are the only guys currently signed past four years, and they have no more buyouts counting against them. Their cap situation is actually quite good.
It could be entirely possible to retool this roster. If you can keep Tkachuk, you can keep Lindholm, and that’s 2/3 of a damn good top line.
8x$9.76M. Make it so.

No, Gaudreau does not get to have his best buddy traded to his team.

IF he wants to stay. The decision has to be made soon. You ask Tkachuk if he will sign an 8 year deal right now, if not the choice is made for you. If they lost Tkachuk for nothing, it would be so sad that it would be hilarious.

I think if the flames do manage to flip Lucic with out taking on salary then bringing in Kadri makes a ton of sense. The cost of moving Lucic without taking on cap though is a concerning thought.

RD with Andersson and Tanev here already. Would be surprised if they add there instead of upfront and neither of those guys are getting moved.
