We flames fans need to get over it. There's always a chance a guy will leave, gaudreau did so. It's ironic how many of us contemplated him not even coming to the flames after college, yet here we are.
I was sad when it set in the day of the deadline, but I moved on from iginla, and this too shall pass.
I just want a move which signals what the franchise has planned for the future. Standing pat isn't an option. Exciting times.

The more I hear, the more I read, especially after listening to Steinberg this afternoon - Johnny is just an awkward guy and didn't know what he really wanted to do.
In the end all parties except for Columbus are dissatisfied. Johnny probably wasn't professional enough during negotiations with Calgary, but I don't think there was ever ill intent.
If it wasn't for the millions of dollars, I would feel bad for him.

How much more entertaining would life be if it was like Liar Liar and humans physically couldn’t lie or bend the truth.
“To be honest Tim my preferred destination was the Blue Jackets division rival in Philly, but they didn’t even make me an offer.
I thought about going back to Calgary at that point but I think I burned that bridge when I reneged on the offer they gave me and Murray Edwards yelled at me.
So at that point Columbus was just the most money left on the table , and so here we are…I’m not super excited but I’m a Columbus Blue Jacket”

For those who didn't watch, what were the tough questions? I dont even care about the answers. I just want to know if anybody in the media has the balls to not kiss a$$ and grill these athletes.
He was asked if there was anything about Calgary that made him not want to stay. He basically just answered with the same answer as before, wanting to be closer to family but not too close.

That's my read as well. I think he wasn't sure what he really wanted, and it took him to the deadline, to realize the flames $$$ wasn't going to be the tipping point to keep him.
I don't know if that's "awkward", think many of us can get twisted about regarding a big decision, even though we know the answer deep down.

Best statement was he said he liked Columbus (vs. Isles/Devils/Philly) because it's close to family but not too close. He likes them coming to more games but also giving them some separation...

Sometimes it’s easy to lie to yourself about what you actually think you want, instead of what you actually want…until it’s time to make the decision.
I know I’ve been there before and for decisions much smaller than he one he was making.

If Johnny really, really, really wanted to play for Philly, I'm sure he could've just offered to sign at a lowball rate (something like 7x7). Pretty sure Fletcher can't say no to that.
It's done. He needed to thank Calgary before pr just after he signed anywhere. He needed to be on 960 not Tim and Friends. Can't go back.
I actually disagree.
To me this shows it was actually a last minute decision.
If he would have had a bunch of canned PR lined up about how much he loved Calgary and is so sad to leave lined up to go out on the 12th and 13th then that just would have proven to me that the decision was made long ago.
The fact he didn’t have any of that ready to go makes me thing that it wasn’t ready because he wasn’t sure he’d actually be leaving.

The right move if that was the only destination would have been to sign for like 1 x $6M.
Then on Jan 1 Philly could actually sign him to an 8 year deal as their own UFA and he could have gotten like 8 x $9.5M with JVRs money off the books.
If I was Fletcher that’s what I would have pitched.
