Had an idea!

All I can say is I hope the Flames faithful boo the #### out of him when he comes back.

Nah, it's like flipping a coin to decide between two outcomes. Sometimes, the coin flip just makes you realize you didn't want one of the outcomes in the first place after you really come to grips with going that route.
I think Gaudreau and family did not fully realize they didn't want to come back until their "demand" was met.

It's a sign of someone that just doesn't have integrity and respect for those he deals with.
All the signs were there though. He had to be walked through not acting like a baby with the refs by the veteran players on the team over the years.
I think he has a fair bit of growing up to do yet. The way the Flames have made life for him so comfortable has probably left him sheltered and he hasn't addressed his social issues as a result.

I'll take lighting up the jackets and a solid Zadorov hit or two over the crowd being vocal.
We should echo his behaviour. Don't even address him, just like he didn't address Calgary and the fans.

I dont even know what to say about that. If you're a pro athlete and your biggest gripe is crossing the US/Canadian border?
You've got bigger things to worry about.

I’d normally agree and give him the benefit but when he said anywhere but Calgary and gave an inauthentic thanks to fans, it wasn’t a “I didn’t want to be in Calgary anymore”. It was more, “I don’t want to say anything good at all because of what went down, so I’ll just say minimal”. That’s my vibe at least. If he wanted to walk away to a new team he’d have been more authentic in his farewell to those he was associated with for years.

Yeah I thought I had read somewhere that Canada has brought it back in. Hopefully just a bad dream.

Tallon became GM in 2005, which was post the Ruutu, Calder, Arnason rebuild. In his second draft he picked Toews and they were off to the races. I have never heard of a guy getting two rebuilds myself.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but Johnny will be on TSN's Overdrive at 3:05 for an interview/chat. If anyone wants to check it out you can see it on TSN4 or TSN Radio (I don't know what the frequency is but it is out of Toronto.)

I haven’t been to a game since pre-COVID, but I’d buy a ticket to that no question.

Somehow I come out of this with more respect for Treliving, despite the fact that this outcome could have been prevented by much earlier decisive action (although that's easy for us to say now in hindsight).
Brad is truly invested in this team and was in getting Johnny back, and he was done dirty by Gaudreau's camp and yet he still had the emotional fortitude to step up to the podium immediately afterward and wish Johnny and his wife well.
Just what a consummate professional.

Friedman on the most recent 32 thoughts says the Gaudreau market was only Columbus, Calgary, and New Jersey
Philly and Islanders were never in it

Still unclear on how the NJ negotiation fell apart.
Was it really just the denial of an NTC? Or was it again a wife veto.
That had to be preffered to Columbus for him personally.

Fine if that was the case. Johnny could have said any time from last off season to now that he had no intention of staying, so inform the team that gave you your big chance, and let them get something in return for their investment.

I dunno man. I’m personally surmising someone up there pissed Gaudreau off. I don’t know whether it’s justified or not but I’m starting to come around to say Johnny wouldn’t be annoyed at the organization unless something happened behind the scenes. It’s such an odd situation that I find it hard to give Treliving or Edwards the pass.
