Money aside, IMO you need a player like Backlund if you want to go far in the playoffs. You trade Backlund, you’re just going to be looking for another Backlund.

I think it is pretty good IF they get a decent defenseman to upgrade the back end. I would be fine with Klingberg, or possibly Chycrun or I wonder about someone like Girard who might be a cap casualty.
I really belive the single biggest hole in the Flames lineup is 1D.

Wondering if Kadri is holding out for more term? I could see every team wanting him for 4 years but 7? I can’t imagine there’s much appetite for that.

39 year old NHLers are usually pretty unproductive. And Kadri plays a style which wipes him out from time to time.
