It will get bypassed immediately. The hardware is already in the car. The only people who will end up paying monthly are boomers who don't know how.

Still, pure garbage from BMW.

This is a bad look for BMW. Charging people on a subscription service when the hardware is in the car is super shady. Tesla can get away with this but BMW doesn't have guy like Elon running the company that millenials just adore.

People are already modding Teslas to add features for which the hardware is present but Tesla didn't enable. People have offered remote coding services for BMWs for eons. People will find ways around this too.

Still a sh-tty direction the business is heading in.

This seems suspicious to me, they recently walked back charging a subscription for Apple Carplay, this is an even dumber feature to make subscription based..

Testing the waters in a smaller market like South Korea. Hopefully if fails miserably. It's a copycat industry so if one automaker can get away with it others will follow.

You can pay for the subscription that will provide a filter that makes it look pretty.

My friends a sales manager at Mazda and said it will come in PHEV as well, which is awesome for the 3 row SUV segment and that class of vehicle.

^Feels like there's a story here... do tell.

Unrelated: I'm thinking of getting a full respray on my Cayman. Anyone have any suggestions as to who would be good to do a good job of that at a reasonable price and what I can expect to pay at this point?

If its a full respray and done properly (with proper tear down prior to spraying) its going to be into the 5 figures, easily.

Maranello does very good work... but they're not cheap. But any cheap resprays will be ####.

I had my E39 M5 backed into a few times while I owned it and Maranello did fantastic work on it, paintwork was flawless though it came at a premium. The one time I didn't get them to do the work (I was selling it shortly -- big regret), I had another shop do the work for expediency's sake and the amount of orange peel on the door was borderline criminal.

If I was doing any paintwork on my Aston, I would consider two options:
1. Maranello
2. Dave at Screamin' Paintworks.

Screamin' Paintworks actually hasn't done any 'paintwork' for me, but did some refinishing on a carbon fiber splitter and made a chin spoiler to protect it for me. Really reasonable prices and great work.

Looked up Screamin'... man that is the most minimalistic website for a business I've seen in quite some time.

My truck is having a complete done at A1 autobody right now. Overall I think they're one of the best shops in town.

Their site sucks. Their work does not suck. They did really good work for me blending pearl. The price was reasonable as well. It will certainly be cheaper than Maranello.

Yeah, upon seeing their site I was a bit apprehensive myself.

I was scouring the interwebs and happened to see a mention of them on an ~8 year old thread on Beyond.ca, so I looked at the website and wasn't exactly impressed. But I called anyway, chatted to Dave, and went down to his shop. He was the first person I talked to that actually said with confidence they could perform the work I was looking for, and he delivered.

Alright, thanks. I'll give them a call. Can't hurt to ask, maybe there are other options.

My problem right now is that someone with a white vehicle at least somewhat taller than mine and parked in front of me apparently backed up, and the bottom of their bumper put a nice big, 2-foot-long scrape across the top of my bumper. Which could of course be fixed just by repainting the bumper, but it's not the only paint issue I have so I was considering just going "screw it, let's re-do the whole thing".

I picked up a new SUV today.
Couldn't find good hybrid or PHEV options without crazy waits, so just stuck with a good old gas guzzler for now.

I won't say what it is so I don't upset Sliver; but it's 3 rows, 3 letters & will have my big gross dog riding in it.

C'mon, share! I did it specifically knowing it would upset Sliver

And I ended up buying a gasofuel unit for the same reason, still didn't feel the extra cost + wait time for a hybrid was worth it yet.
