Sure seems like the relationship was damaged beyond repair on Tuesday night. Edwards has a reputation for being a hot head and pouring gasoline on relationships. It would not be surprising at all if his intervention sent this thing off the rails.
The consolidation of ownership in Edwards' corner in the wake of Harley Hotchkiss's passing remains the worst thing that's happened to this franchise.

Yeah he really seemed un-prepared for those questions at the press conference. His agent and the group around him really don't seem to be doing him any favours.
He didn't seem thrilled about Columbus to me either - answers felt kind of cookie cutter - that was the look and reaction of a guy who thought he'd be a Philadelphia Flyer today.
In terms of his comments about Calgary...his families comments on Twitter were better crafted and more thought out it seems.
He's never been the best public speaker but you could really see that it felt like something was eating at him a bit as he answered those questions.
With this in mind now it makes it even weirder that his agent went right to the insiders and said "The Flames did everything they could. This came down to a family decision" which I think actually hurt his negotiating position with the Eastern teams.
Honestly to me it points to something going sour in that final conversation between Treliving, Gaudreau, and Edwards Tuesday night. Or maybe Gaudreau had actually accepted the $10.5M offer then something caused him to back out. I have a feeling something between Edwards and him got personal and maybe those rumors of Edwards calling Gaudreau directly that somebody mentioned here yesterday being true.

You have to respect that he played out his contracts and didn't ask the team for a trade.. for better or worse.

Proving that stars do not want to play in Calgary is far worse than when Feaster got below market value for stars. It almost certainly will drive down what we may get for a Tkachuk if we try to trade him. The fact that trading for him allows a team to control whether they can sign him would likely have a stabilizing effect, but the events of the last 48 hours were probably worse long term than any effect from the poor Iginla and Bouwmeester trades.

I don't know about that...the roster as is right now is better than a lot of past teams. Hopefully this forces them to be more creative.
There are some solid UFAs and RFAs out there. Sign a D and trade a D? Have to find out Tkachuk's plans though

Clearly we need to sign Frederick Gaudreau and give him #13 so people don't have to burn/get rid of their jerseys haha

No, those still work.
“Bought and paid for” suggests your opinions aren’t your own.
“Debbie downer” only suggests you’re a total bummer to be around.

Jordan Peterson Is one of my favourite humans alive. Johnny sucks. At this point idgaf why he left or where he went. Just doesn’t feel like it went down as amicably as it should’ve. Now we sink further into mediocrity with few to none options to reverse the trend. Unless a prospect or two becomes great.
Ofc we finally get another good goalie and then the team potentially wastes his prime. Hopefully wolf turns out and guides us to a successful rebuild or a retool. I’m generally optimistic but this whole never being bad enough for good picks or good enough to win anything is taxing.

Absolutely destroying his legacy and any good will the fanbase had for him. The literal polar opposite of Iginla's departure and long-lasting legacy.

Yup.
When he left I was more upset at Crosby for tampering, than Iginla.
Then poetic justice put a puck in Sidney’s face.

Remember most of the 1990s until the early 2000s? I do. I believe that is where we are heading. Now we get to find out who are the hardcore fans and who are the bandwagoners.
I think the only thing that can save this team now is some kind of positive news. A Tkachuk signing or arena announcement would definitely help. If Tkachuk heads out the door next, it is going to start looking like the mass exodus of star players that left in the 1990s and early 2000s. It's really hard to recover a reputation after that happens.

Imagine if Edwards screwed us out of a new arena and one of the best players we’ve ever had in a single year.
How wonderful!

Would his agent say that Calgary did everything they could if Murray Edwards effed it up though?

I think a lot of us are missing the fact that this is not all Johnny's decision. We all assumed that the "family decision" was to move closer to home. When in reality it was I believe down to the future of his wife's career in addition to his. Our healthcare system is a mess so no wonder he left for his wife to have a chance to join one of the best children's hospitals in Columbus. Add in Johnny has never been one for media, he is joining a city where he'll be able to fly under the radar a bit and not be recognized wherever he goes.

Probably, the league will still want to protect the owner's reputations. I wonder if we will get the real story of what went down over the next few years.

Shouldn't the team be able to figure this out as well? Shouldn't they be able to read the player and the player's comments/behaviors??? The fans and some of the media had this figured out a long time ago, what was the team missing?

The 90's were way worse.
