We simply need to stop with the koolaid, vested interest, biased, apologist.
People can see things differently without being bought and paid for.
So tired of it.

Doesn't seem like that's important to him tbh

He said it was best that they didn't return to Calgary? That is a really odd way of putting it.
Maybe he had a side chick in Calgary. Wife, who had a job in Philly, finds out, disrupts her life and moves to Calgary last season to do some rooster blocking and insists they need to move right after the season ends.

Flames are my biggest rival and we all know my feelings about them, however this Gaudreau quote from Wes Gilbertson's account makes Johnny look like a complete a**hole. Just my opinion but why answer a question like that?

The Flames on the other hand were going to lose depth due to our cap situation. We were going to be in worse shape going into 2022-23.
Realistically, the Flames window to contend was 2018-2022 and we didn’t accomplish enough in that time. The Oilers window appears to be now and they’ll be in good shape cap wise until the end of Draisaitl’s contract.
|
Re-signing your own players, at higher cap hits, does not make you better.
It is valid to argue that Campbell is better than Smith, but I don't think so, personally. And he certainly wasn't last year. Campbell had worse numbers on a better team, and that team let him walk. We'll see how it goes in Edmonton for him, but that defense is atrocious.

So now we know. It wasn't about close to home and he knew he was not coming back well before he let Tre know. You can just tell by his answers he is saying he liked Calgary but he never was going to sign back here. By him taking as long as he did he did a disservice to the city and the organization. Give him the Tavares treatment for sure when he plays in Calgary.

So like… now what? We had two star forwards on the team this season - one just essentially told the world that it was worth $15 million to him to not be in Calgary anymore, and the other looks like he’s going to sign his QO and get out of dodge as soon as possible too. The Flames are about to be a non-factor for years, right when our arena is in desperate need of replacement, ownership and the municipal government are feuding, and the majority owner has already severed ties with the city (and the country).
Things are looking very, very dire for the future of this franchise.

Right? And at that point Gaudreau is a one year rental. Can you imagine the reaction if Treliving traded Gaudreau for that kind of return? And then said “well, even though he said he was prepared to extend at the right price I just couldn’t trust that”.

Your standards are not realistic. Just look at what $9M gets you these days, Dougie Hamilton. Seth Jones, Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, Darnell Nurse. Tavares and Panarin got $11M!
Johnny’s contract would’ve been a great deal by comparison.
|
those are all bad contracts...kinda proves my point
It probably would have been good a few years and then bad, maybe very bad
tough to say, 1M per 10 points seems like the going rate. Dmen are different obviously.
I would have signed him to the 10.5 but there is certainly major risk
If Gaudreau puts up 82 points I don't think the Jackets will be thrilled or make up the 25 points needed to make the playoffs

No kidding. Some completely embarrassing stuff being posted here. Reminds me of how we all laughed at Edmonton fans when the debacle with Pronger happened. Guaranteed that lurkers are laughing at us for some of what's been written.
Especially shame on some people crapping on his family posting about the times they enjoyed in Calgary. His uncle said he interacted with Flames' fans and probably has an account on CP. I hope for his own sake he stops reading this thread. Very strange to see the videos of the Flames thanking him, his family posting thanks, and yet so very few 'thanks' from CP. I would never have guessed that after the years he put here. Honestly makes me a little sad to see it come to this. Hilarious what the end result is, but sad that his legacy is tarnished forever.
Ultimately I enjoyed his time here in Calgary and sounds like I'll be one of the few who isn't going to boo him when he returns. Hopefully cooler heads prevail because pretty much the majority of his time here he was a pleasure to watch on the ice.
Baffling decision for sure to leave like this, but ultimately this is a game millionaires play and people, especially Canadian hockey fans, get way to riled up when their favorite hero leaves. You can be sure next time a player is debating whether to play for this team that their agent is going to tell them to do some research about this fanbase to get a feel for how it would go, and this thread will potentially pop up.
Ugly divorce for sure. But hopefully this is a lesson to fans and management about going into a season with a pending UFA and while the team might be doing good, the hard decision to at least look at a trade needs to be considered.

They can return everyone but Gaudreau and be competitive. Or trade Tkachuk and rebuild.
Columbus just lost all their good players to free agency a couple of years ago.. and now they get Gaudreau today. Life goes on.

Clearly he wanted out whether it was for awhile or just since Tuesday night. Time to turn the page. I think Tkachuk is gone this summer too while he is still valuable. I can't remember a time any worse for this organization. We will rise again!

lost in all the high fiving over Keith retiring he was their #3. Its not just me saying that. Their amazing coach had in 3rd in ice time in the playoffs.
Koskinen isn't a world beater but he saved their season when Smith went down...Can Skinner do the same? Also, they still need to sign some guys.

Emotions are hot now.. who knows how it will be in 6 months when he comes to Calgary.
But even if everyone is still angry and booing him - it will end up like a Vince Carter thing where eventually the fans will forgive and move on.

Then Markstrom isn't the answer in net whenever they play the Oilers. He went from being a Vezina finalist to looking like a minor league goalie in one single playoff series.
We need an entire team firing on all cylinders to beat the Oilers. It's that simple. I just don't think we're there yet. Maybe this team will rebound next year but it's going to be now hard to convince Tkachuk and others to stay with this team long-term and overcome this obstacle.

Yeah, I wonder if Murray Edwards did step in and scare him away or something. Treliving looked like he was done with life in his presser as well. Maybe some weird #### went down at the wire.

How about doom and gloom? How about negative Nancy? Debbie downer?
How about any of the terms you elect to apply to people who look at the game differently?
