Or maybe he actually just wanted to move closer to home, which he did. I'll concede I'm as shocked as the next guy that he picked Columbus, but he gave up a lot of money to be closer to home and play within the same division of his hometown. Hard to argue that one.

I think some of you need to do some serious traveling in the US.

Calgary is much better than 90% of the big cities there, including Columbus. It's clear that Gaudreau and his agent overplayed their hand and didn't want to go crawling back to Calgary with their tail between their legs. So they took the next best offer.

Yes Columbus is much closer to the Philadelphia area than Calgary. But I wouldn't say it's close enough to see family every weekend or whatever. A 2-hour flight, including security and baggage claim, etc. is not much better than a 4-hour flight.

It’s actually pretty easy to argue that. Something is amiss.

Obviously I was exaggerating he isn't throwing games...winning is not top priority though, not even close

It's probably good the Flames didn't give an 8 year contract to someone that doesn't have the cup as his #1 goal.

Look at that division, he will be lucky to get past the first round one time over this contract

So now our argument is that he is in the same division as his favorite team. Come on.

Wasn't that obvious when he said he was putting his family first? Whether he picked New Jersey, NYI, or Columbus he was still taking a major downgrade on his chances at a cup (in comparison to Calgary).

Why are you all ignoring my Glee question?

Might be the key to this whole thing.

I haven't been to many US cities, but if this is true it doesn't inspire me to travel there.

Same division as his home town, more games close to home..... pretty easy to understand that assuming you follow hockey.

It's a business, people need to grow up.

I’m saying one in game example does not a trend make.

He turned down NJ though so this is a stretch

He wanted less pressure to win, call a spade a spade

Not when a team an hour away from home made a similar offer and he chose Columbus instead.

Gaudreau always seem like a guy who wasn't very fond of the spot light

Gotta get to the final at least to be in that convo...best regular season player maybe but that kinda confirms the point most of us are making.

The personal decision told us a lot about the player...I wouldn't be saying this if he moved elsewhere

I have been to Columbus, it is a dumpster compared to Calgary. There is a reason players don't want to stay there.
