Words are words. He’s not going to say anything negative about the coach during the year when things are going well.
I know his dad said the same thing, but they maybe didn’t want to disrupt anything.

I never actually heard that. But there are examples of players speaking positively about their tough coach but resenting them behind the scenes. Including Sutter.

What if Vancouver or Seattle offered you a contract as well though?
It's a difficult comparison though, because Western Canada doesn't have a lot of teams. Yeah, JG might be in Columbus, but he will also be spending a lot of time in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Newark, Philadelphia, and DC as the Blue Jackets play in that area a lot. All easily drivable distances for family to visit him on road trips. In the Western Conference, that opportunity doesn't exist.
Is Columbus the most ideal? No. Is it logistically a lot better for him than a lot of other places? Yes.

As we have come to see, here, Brad Treliving can be (and is) blamed for everything. Every. Little. Thing.

Why Brooklyn? Not that it’s bad, it’s great. But there’s no team.

If Johnny didn’t like the coach to the point he wouldn’t sign here, then let him walk. Johnny play as a Flame was best under Sutter, and next Hartley IMO. He wasn’t good enough under other coaches, so if he wanted a different environment then it goes back to winning not being a top priority.
I Shouldn’t have even comment on this though cause I’m in there’s no evidence to support that this is even remotely true at this point.

He never wanted to come here, Conroy's tactics got him here out of college. Otherwise he wouldn't have signed and got rights traded before the next draft.
It has always been a real risk he was going east at first free opportunity, I never thought different.
His time here and success and the way he was treated and everything else had him want to stay here, especially last year, and his idea of a legacy was real, I truly believe that.
But his parents getting older and marrying a girl from the same area pretty much sealed that deal though, as any goodwill and adaptation he made to live her happily for 9 years suddenly became half the story/decision making this time last year when he input became relevant.
The fact it took until last minute IMO shows he was really torn. But agent pressures and family feelings and the legnth of time he was commiting for was just too much to stick here.

If it's a half hour drive to see my family vs a 2 hour flight, that's a pretty big difference. I take the half hour drive even if it means taking a bit less money on my contract.
So if Johnny is leaving Calgary for family reasons, I only buy it if he signs in Jersey or Philly, maybe NY also though that's a bit farther. With him signing in Columbus when Jersey was a possibility, I can't buy the visit-my-family narrative.

It would have hurt a lot more to lose him to Philly or NJ. The team we always thought he might end up on or having him leave to join a talented young team full of up and coming guys would have stung but I can’t help but shake my head and laugh at this decision by him. Kind of relieved it ended like this, going to make it alot easier to move on from him not being a Flame IMO.

When Philly backed out, CBJ came storming in...and Johnny's agent advised him to sign because the game of musical chairs was coming to an end, and he might be left without a chair.
The only flaw in that is I can't figure out what happened to NJD.
|
Hmmm.
But I don't get why he had to sign today? Why not wait till tomorrow? Why rush? Why not go back to Philly or the Devils and figure something out? It all literally makes no sense.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. As bad as this decision is, players do still willingly go play hockey in Edmonton every year. Let's not get carried away.
