I'm not. Looks like Gross gave him so bad advice by not signing with the Flames. One year less and less money.

Maybe he didn’t like Treliving… Tired of being lowballed… feeling disrespected by the low initial offer… who knows

So maybe we are all just missing something about Columbus in relation to Johnny.

How much do you really even need to deal with a GM? Your coach is your boss. Your agent and Tre do the negotiating.
Johnny sounds like a whiner.

If he took advice he could demand a trade in a few years if it doesn’t work out, he’s a moron. So I doubt that is the case. There is no contender out there ever that could slide $12M into their team without major trade offs. Its borderline unworkable for McDavid, let alone Gaudreau.
He’s stuck there for 7 of his final prime years. So hopefully he can make it work cause it is going to be a looong time there.

Lowballed! 8x9.5 is not a low offer

I had been quite sad about this saga. Finally caught up with what happened. I am sad no more.
WTAF is all this.
Oh well, this does make Johnny moving on so much more palatable

So now people are complaining because a player took less money lol. Who knows what his reasons are, but he did nothing wrong.

Not treated right for 2 years? Maybe this is a Sutter thing given that timeline. Sutter praised him but did he praise Sutter back? Or maybe just said stuff?
Anyway, a guy that’s only played for one team can’t have any real opinion on how he’s “treated”. He’s never negotiated with anyone but Treliving, who I think is pretty much in the middle of hard versus soft GMs. The team made a big deal of his family and treated them well. They fired Hartley when Gaudreau and others complained.

If true he likely didn’t like the way he was being treated by Trev/organization (for some reasons) fits into the other rumor posted that Edwards made the last pitch last night.

If it's true that Johnny/Gross reached out to the Jackets first, I wonder if Gudbranson knew that was the plan in advance.

Maybe it is that simple. Maybe he would have stayed in Calgary, but at the salary he wanted, they couldn't keep Gudbranson. So Johnny said no. Devils were on board until negotiations hit a snag. Devils then signed Brendan Smith at D. Short while later, Gudbranson signs in Columbus and so does JG.
Maybe Johnny doesn't like going to new places by himself. Hell, his first game in Calgary Bill Arnold came with him and played a game. I don't believe it myself, but stranger things have happened and this signing is strange.

The offer that was 250K less per year and a #### ton more in total dollars than what he got was a low offer? OK.

Johnny spoke really positively about Sutter. I don't think Sutter was the issue.

If the Flames offered 10.5x8 and his current contract is 9.75x7 that would be a difference of $15.75m. That’s significant.
Something must have happened, maybe he didn’t like Darryl’s hard/relentless coaching style. But look at the results so it can’t really be that I wouldn’t think but who knows.

I think people are realizing he doesn't care about winning, like at all.
Also if he was willing to go to Columbus for less money he was never staying and should have let the Flames know.

Maybe $2M of Gudbranson’s salary is being paid through to Johnny.

Honestly - the guy probably just wanted to go east. I highly doubt he spent all these years here if he had secret hatred of the GM or whoever.
