I think Treliving over played his hand and pissed Johnny off. We never got confirmation that flames offered 8x 11M. Maybe Treliving low balled throughout the entire process.
It would make no sense for Gaudreau to bail on the devils just because they’re “rivals” with the Flyers. Even if they were the main rival, which they’re not, it would still be dumb. He has to play the flyers just as much now anyway, who cares. If my wife and I wanted to be closer to family in western Canada, and Edmonton was the only team that could make it work, plus pay me the most, and I balked because I hated them when I was 12 my whole family would disown me and get divorced. And I’d deserve it for being such a sophomoric simpleton.

That he called Johnny last night with the best and final offer from the flames and told him to take it or leave it.
Did not call Gross and did not involve Tre.
This just doesn’t sound true. I don’t even know if it’s allowed for an owner or even GM to bypass a player rep.
But if it was it would sound to me like Edwards figured Johnny was getting bad advice and wanted his offer unfiltered by Gross’ spin. And he’d be right.

Plenty of NHL player play for their childhood team’s rivals. I don’t think they think that way at all when they get to the show.
Johnny is gonna regret this decision when the Jackets fail to make the playoffs and he’s stuck at home watching the Flames compete in the Cup final next year.
