Since we are making stuff up. My made up scenario is that he wanted it to be Philly.
Philly perhaps communicated to him that they could clear the room required to make him the offer he needed.
Then they couldn't or decided they didn't want to give up the asset required (1st) to dump JVR.
When Philly backed out, CBJ came storming in...and Johnny's agent advised him to sign because the game of musical chairs was coming to an end, and he might be left without a chair.
The only flaw in that is I can't figure out what happened to NJD.
Yes, he is. It's a 1 1/2 hour flight from Columbus to Philly, and his family doesn't have to cross a border. Is it right next door? No. But it's a lot closer than Calgary
Where do people think Columbus is?

Maybe he figures that if the best he could do in 8 years in Calgary is to win 2 playoff series and he had so much respect for the city and the fans he took less money to get out of town and give Calgary a better chance at success over the next 8 years.
How many times do you have to be told?
Go wait in the car.

This is the only reasonable explanation.
Just swallow your pride and call BT back you idiot. Fire your agent, blame him and save face with the fans, come back to Calgary on 7X10.
So so stupid
Gaudreau's guaranteeing now that he will get booed by the fans when he returns.
I could understand him wanting to go to the Devils or Flyers to be closer to home, but Columbus makes absolutely no sense (especially when it's for less money). It's a team going absolutely nowhere.
This feels like a big middle finger to the entire Flames organization.
Apparently the offer from NJ was also north of $10 million now too.....Maybe he wanted Philly, they couldn't afford him. He then hates the Devils, because he is a NJ fan, and Columbus was the only other team in the area willing to make a big offer?
I have a source, apparently Johnnys says he hasn’t been treated right for two years and there may have been issues with some of the players. Who knows though.
There are always these kinds of weird rumors. There were his coke rumors. a poster said Johnny's roommate was his student and he had a few bad performance years for legit reasons, etc. (didn't specify but it seemed like a rough time).
It's all easier to try to make sense of these now that this has happened. Seems like there are some grains of truth here.
The reason he crawls out of his hole is because people pay attention to him. Just let him quietly spam his nonsense in the background and maybe he'll go away again.

Where did you hear that?
Because that makes it EVEN weirder.

Then add to the fact how many times Columbus visits Philly, NJ, NYR, Washington, NYI
It fits the bill

Location: In a land without pants, or war, or want. But mostly we care about the pants.
Exp:
Johnny would have been smarter to sign with Calgary with the understanding he would be immediately traded. Then a team like Philly could have sent salary and picks back, and everybody wins, or at least loses less.
